    He told me at the time but I’d have to ask him again. The final cut was a hacksaw blade attached to a pole to cut the vertical steel bar ( looks like an orange circle on the left portion). It was the only think left holding the pieces together. A 20 minute cut.

    Sounds bad. Hopefully he is able to recover. While slow down and think is imperative, you also need to have the knowledge of safe practices and the attitude that goes with it. Otherwise all the thinking isn’t worth a damn.

    It’s been a while and I just revisited this thread. It all worked out in the end. 100 man-hrs. of planning paid off. The crane was maxed on the final pick at 46k lbs. I had estimated 30-36k but for a smaller piece. I used some assumptions on concrete weight and potential volume in that section...

    Very sad accident today...

    The point of learning the details of this accident is to give provide us with a learning tool. Instead of speculating on the exact cause we will know and thus can learn and teach. It will no longer be hearsay or our jnterpretation that can then be refuted and undermined.
