Replace suspension in kask super plasma?

That chin cup comes off as a helmet is being taken out of the package! I can imagine how uncomfortable that would be all day! Before that super plasma, my previous two helmets were pretzl vertex vent. I'm all for spend the money once for something that's worth it. I'm really just not seeing...

    Equipment Hauler

I like that too. Certainly better than moving the ramps around. We'll have to explore cost options. Obviously, 10 ft long heavy duty aluminum ramps are not going to be cheap... The disadvantage I see what they roll off truck like that: *Surface would be slick when wet and with mud on the...

Replace suspension in kask super plasma?

I emailed Kask. I didn't realize until I looked closer, the helmet is out of date. I bought it I was thinking only 2 years ago... But maybe it was three or four? I don't remember the circumstances, it was part of a tree fund fundraiser... I remember that because it had tree fund stickers on it...

    Equipment Hauler

Appreciate the thoughts...I did see your comment about about loading that high with 10' ramps...which makes me think maybe a dovetail truck wouldn't be as useful. 10' isnta bad length, but much longer starts to sound bit much. Are your ramps steel or aluminum?

    Equipment Hauler

@Chris Schultz did you ever end up expanding your hauling capabilities. I'm thinking through options again... I still think I want a flatbed truck to haul the loader (Avant). Has anyone ever had a dovetail truck with a trailer hitch on it? Obviously would have to unhook trailer each time. Or...

Fruit tree holding on by a thread, client wants to get another year out of it. Thoughts?

"Prune at secondary laterals in the outer 1/3 of large scaffold branches with the goal of aiding air circulation and light penetration". I think the point is anything that is an appropriate practice can be described without using the word "thinning" and "thinning" by itself can mean a LOT of...

Fruit tree holding on by a thread, client wants to get another year out of it. Thoughts?

Yeah...i was just laughing to myself a little at the different ways the term was being used - and even misunderstood in a few posts among professional arborists. Which is, I think, a good argument for not saying we are going to "thin" a tree via pruning ... because that term already has a...

And this is why the term "thinning" was removed from the A300 pruning standard...

Fruit tree holding on by a thread, client wants to get another year out of it. Thoughts?

For a light weight prop, I've drilled about 8-10" in and put a 3' piece of rebar into the end of the prop board, then the rest driven in the ground. Not saying that's always a good answer, but worked well when I used it. (As far as I know.... I'll revisit a tree we did last spring. Just had...

"Tom...put your hose away " "Why? I'm just going to deflower your tree!"

What's on your mind? TCI Magazine wants to know

"they did a great job cleaning up!" Was just explaining this to a new helper...we could leave the trees in perfect condition - amazing pruning work that blows away of every arborist's mind, but not do a good job raking up and the client will tell their neighbor "I'd never hire them again, they...

How do you turn down work?

Got a text asked about this one. Nope...not climbing that. Also...just don't do big removals. I know the wind was widespread...but we have as much damage here since the 2012 derecho if someone is looking for work.

    X15 coolant loss

Can you pressurize the system when cool (put a pressure pump on the radiator) to see if you can push the leak out? I know it wasn't a Cummins diesel...but son's car was loosing coolant and I couldn't figure it out. As soon as I was at the mechanic and he pressurized it manually, the leak was...

Only for the people wanting to do it right...smooth sailing for those who don't play by the rules. That's the problem. Enforcement for the licensure and tax laws needs to happen. How many clients ask "is there a discount it I pay in cash?". Because it works... they have worked with other...

(specifically removals) "I appreciate being your first call! However, this isn't what we do best and we try to focus on those things. Here are a couple of companies I recommend." Those companies know I am passing their name out and they also refer work to me. One is newer and maybe does a...

As long as there is a customer willing to save a buck, there's a hack willing to pretend to be an expert. I think its safe to say those are not "our customers"...but it would be good to hear strategies about "flipping" some of those to look for legitimate companies rather than feeding the...

Replace suspension in kask super plasma?

When I first used the Kask I thought to myself "My next helmet will be going back to the Petzl Vertex Vent." It just felt better. But honestly, there are a host of $30-40 helmets on Amazon with appropriate ANSI ratings, I'm not seeing where the Petzl is worth 3x the cost. I've bought some of...

Replace suspension in kask super plasma?

I've avoided Protos because it s very rare that I want earmuffs in the tree. Especially since switching to a battery saw. On less than 5 times per year I need hearing protection while climbing, I used the stiff banded ear plugs. There are winter days I wouldn't mind a Protos with...
