I am looking into purchasing a rear mount bucket truck and have come across a few short bed International trucks with an aerial lift of Connecticut boom. I've read that they are great booms but I'm wondering about parts and service now that they are out-of-business. Thanks for any advice on...
Vet, I sold my 2001 Mitts and Merrill K-16 chipper with approximately 1000 hours on a cummins diesel for $4500 2 years ago. I had it on Craigslist for $6000 since it was in good shape with new knives but it was difficult to sell at that price. Hope this helps.
Hey Lumberjack, can you write a little more about why the purchase of the TM64 would have not been a good choice. I am thinking an aerial lift may be my next purchase and like the idea of the trailer mount moved around the job site with my Ditch Witch SK755. Thanks
Well, I bought a 1987 S1900 flatbed dump truck this past week. Needs new tires and there is rust in the cab floor but otherwise it fires right up and seems like a solid truck.
Thanks for all the replies. It has the DT466 with a manual 5 speed and 2 speed rear axle, 33000 GVW. I am going to try to make a trip to check it out within the next week or two.
I am looking at a 1987 S1900 to use as a log and equipment hauler. It looks to be in good shape and I had a mechanic test drive the truck since the truck is on a lot 3 hours from where I live. He said it drove fine and appears to be well-cared for. Should I save to buy something newer. Can parts...
I was wondering about the Buckalloys as well. They have a straight shank as opposed to a contoured one. Isn't this design better suited to pole climbing?
I use retired 1/2" rigging ropes like true blue or yale buzz. This works well and I prefer using a retired rigging rope instead of buying a new rope to drag through the dirt.
I have a 2001 Swinger 2000 AG with a TMD27 65 hp continental diesel. It has auxiliary hydraulics, root grapple made by WR Long, forks and mulch bucket. It is stored inside and has no mechanical issues except the gauges on the dash. I have new gauges but they have not been installed. The machine...
Thanks Tim, that is useful information. I bought my last bucket truck through a private sale and it has worked out well for me. I think I will try to do the same for my next truck.
Has anyone bought a bucket truck from BTS Equipment in Michigan? I am looking for a reconditioned rear mount and they have a few available. Michigan is a ways from where I live in Virginia so it's hard to inspect the trucks before making a purchase.
Axetree, just wanted to make sure I understand. You bought a forestry truck and turned it into a rear mount by shortening the frame and turning the boom around?
Is it true that parts for the ALC are 40% higher than parts for hi-ranger or altec or other lifts? Anyone have experience with Schmidy's or Tri-State. They seem to have the most rear mounts online.
I am looking to replace my current non-over center, 55 ft. working height bucket truck with an over-center one. I am planning on buying a truck from the late 90's, early 2000's but was told by an equipment dealer that the manufacturers of over-center booms recommend retiring these units at 8...
