    So.. Free Climbing?

To me, safety means reliable security when you think you don’t need it. Imagine yourself free climbing, and both arms cramp up to the point of being useless. Or if you faint from sudden onset heat exhaustion, or if you just fucking slip, just that one time. You’re going to wish you had a...

    balance points for basic rigging

I didn't watch it either but I think Daniel is renaming the common peel cut as his "rip cut". whereas you have no face cut and only a backcut, the idea being that the limb drops slower and the butt remains attached for a period of time as the sapwood/cambium of the limb peels away from the...

    What Causes Milking

I have a consequence of milking to add to the discussion, and it's scary. I don't know how it actually happened, but on my 180' Tendril the cover has milked about 1" past the core on one end. I thought, no big deal, right. Well, there is a consistent spot in the line about 20 feet from this end...

    New Climber

+1 for Gap Arb Supply in PA. Ray and Kyle there are awesome to deal with. Read the tree climber's companion. Buy good gear so you won't hesitate to trust it. Low & slow at first. Practice descending many times before you go way up.

    Pulleys are force multipliers.

Enter the rigging triple thimble. Best purchase I have ever made. It's even better riding on my ultrasling!

    So.. Free Climbing?

I wanna say maybe. But no, I disagree, this document is exactly what they're going to give the greenhorn 19yr old when they ask him to check the crown of a tree for research/silviculture reasons. That 19yr old should not be allowed to enter the tree for the first time believing that Free...

    So.. Free Climbing?

https://www.fs.fed.us/treeclimbing/policy/2015_04_22NTCGweb.pdf Section 6.2. So the Fed Forest Service is describing a scenario when you can move about the tree crown without being tied in? Are they - and their employees - not required to follow Z133? I mean I get it, I've climbed a tree as a...

What % of Climbers do you think...

I am not positive on the terminology either, but I believe closed system to be MRS where you tie the Blake’s with the tail of the rope. And clip harness in to the loop. Slight variations to this being split tail, or a mechanical hitch.

Strength Training Programs and the Off Season

One easy core exercise that coincides strength, balance, and meditation: Balance on hands & knees on top of an exercise ball, and slowly extend, hold, & retract each limb while maintaining balance on top of the ball. Buckin Billy Ray style!

@Brocky @SomethingWitty But don't those require a hitch cord? My main objective is to see if we can find a reliable hitch to descend an SRT line in an emergency with just the tail of the line. Sorry to the OP for the threadjack.

    Camp Gyro 3-way swivel

Actually, to slim mine down even more, someone would have to come up with the holy grail. We have a swivel-carabiner (Swiva-eye), we have a carabiner-pully (revolver, rollclip Z). But who is going to be the first manufacturer to come up with the Swivel-Pulley-Carabiner?!?! I'd buy one! But...

What % of Climbers do you think...

Which brings up a similar question that has come up to me from time to time: Which hitches are reliable enough to descend on an SRT rope in an emergency, and can any of them be tied with the tail of the line? Most of them will lock up, so I'm curious to see what you folks can come up with.

Sums up my sentiments, too. I never learned a blakes, I started right away with the Unicender. In fact, if you asked me to pretend my mechanical broke and to descend a crotch with just a rope, I would be reaching for my e2e or runner to tie a klemheist.. did I just realize that I don't know...

    Face masks

Heard the same thing. A mask covering an infected person's cough/sneeze is more effective than an uninfected person wearing a mask trying to keep out the germs. They also say that for an uninfected person wearing a mask, they are more likely to touch their face (adjusting the mask) with germy...

    balance points for basic rigging

I like it. But, they should have supplemented the missing foliage with kale or something! :) 2/3 rule sounds great, but he gave the 2/3 example without the (simulated) weight of foliage and it still worked? hmm..
