I was tied into about a 4" willow top today. Willow and Doug fir both snap like carrots so its kinda important to be familiar with the module of rupture of the tree your working on. But again experience and confidence are the key. You will be surprised what will hold you.
Getcha a 3/8" Tenex or 8mm Bee Line tress cord and your good to go. Oh and if you havent used a slack tender pulley. Ya might want to get one of them to.
