    Boots for hire!!!

Merrell Moab Ventilator Mid. Been using em for a few months after seeing them recommended in this thread. Cheap, comfortable, lightweight, work well with foot ascenders. They're advertised as summer hikers, but with decent socks they're fine in a mild winter too.

Some questions for you lovely climbers about an app for finding good trees to climb

That's rad to hear! What led you to pursue this? ie, As far as I can tell, Seattle Parks use guidelines are silent on the subject of climbing - are Bainbridge's more explicit? I've always tried to fly under the radar, especially after a recent kerfuffle over slacklining in Seattle parks - it...

    Tactical APTA

Done! You can use a sprinkler valve - either electrically (a few 9V batteries), or after modifying the valve to accept a pneumatic trigger. People have been doing this sort of thing for a long time. A manually actuated ball-valve is pretty neolithic compared to other triggering methods.

    Simple webbing pull test

See also, How Strong is a Stitched Splice? in Nylon Highway #03 . and Sewn Seat Slings in Nylon Highway #07 Many things in On Rope were previously published in Nylon Highway in an expanded form. Most back issues of Nylon Highway are available online, you can order the entire remaining set of...

    Crossbow for line installation...

I've had the same experience - fixed it with an elastic band which opens the valve. The amount of time it takes to pressurize the barrel is really important - there are a lot of elaborate valve designs (co-axial valves, burst disc valves, etc) to work around this. I've found that using a loop...

    Stiching cut strands

Ahhh - found it! From Climbing Treadmill by Pete Sauvigne, Nylon Highway #35: Making the splice is critical to the success of this system. A kernmantle rope is required, I use standard PMI. On each end of the loop piece: Pull out the core about 10 inches by aggressively sliding the sheath...

    Stiching cut strands

Have you seen Splicing Kernmantle Rope by DW Tomer in Nylon Highway #12? IIRC, there's at least one other method they've published for kernmantle rope (as part of another treadmill build), but I can't seem to find it.

    Crossbow for line installation...

I'm not sure that's correct - the ATF in the US certainly doesn't. They've written several letters to this effect: The Bureau has previously examined devices known as 'Spud Guns, Potato Guns, or Spudzookas' and have determined that such devices, in and of themselves, are not firearms ...

    Sad end to cat rescue...

Slightly off-topic, but for a long time I thought cat rescues were an urban myth. In college, a kitten literally followed us home from the bar one night - ended up adopting it. I've never seen a cat that would climb at all, let alone for fun. She would run up the trunk, and be 30 feet up on a...
