Crossbow for line installation...

If I need more than 200psi (not recommended)I go to a compressor.

After I read that, I fell down an internet rabbit hole googling "small high pressure air compressor"...which led to shoebox compressors, using a fridge compressor, etc.
Since I've gotta blame you ;) for the consumption of an hour of my life last evening...What compressor do you use to get 200+psi?
Thanks,
Dave

Like mebbe a grenade type launcher on the end of a .22 rifle?
Edit... forgot emoticon, as follows: :inocente:
.22 firing a blank of course. No CCI Stingers, minimags, etc.

Okay, okay I figured it out. (Yoyoman has my blessing to apply for the patent, cause I like him way more than the Haas dude).
Imagine the following: (pharmaceuticals might help with the imagining process)
1. Find a hollow liner that will fit inside a Jameson/Marvin pole. Serves to protect the pole, avoids the rivet, and sizes the ID down to the Dia. of the projectile, er throwknight. (Will that thing even slide down inside a pole, I dunno?)
2. Need a flat aluminum washer that sits on top of a long spring. Throw line attaches through spring to washer. Bowline on bight or alpine butterfly knot to archery trigger mounted on butt end of pole. Somehow.
3. Load, cock, aim, shoot, hire defence attorney.

Since we are passing out future legal battles, I only want 5% for this idea along with immunity to liability.

Behold - The CrossShot (patent not pending). Picture something the general shape and size of a sawed off shotgun with a pistol grip, slingshot prongs on the muzzle end, and a foot plate to stand on while you load it.

The pistol grip is attached to a crossbow trigger release on top, the trigger assembly can slide from the back end to halfway up the barrel with a locking pin at 2" intervals to set the power.

It would use a rigid pouch, and 4 lines of surgical tubing on each side attached as 1 continuous loop that meets in the pouch handle.

What you end up with is a short pull, high power, triggerable, easy aim slingshot. It fits in your bag unlike any of the other solutions proposed, and will still have fewer parts (less expense) than a crossbow.

Side note: The reason a water balloon launcher needs a long pull (aside from a balloon being a body at rest) is because the balloon can't withstand the exceleration, so as another benefit this design also avoids some of the risks associated with long pull elastic devices -

Your welcome, please send checks care of FreeFallin.

I think a folding stock or mules leg version CrossShot, equipped with an integrated Picatinny rail will blow a crossbow outta the swamp! Ergonomic polymer grip, of course.
Marketing literature could also feature night sights with a frightened raccoon.

Love it. Ergonomic grip goes without saying.

I already launched the international marketing campaign. Let me know what you think -

I learned that there are more variables that affect the result than just psi. Namely, the speed and consistency with which I flip the valve. I gave it a few days of tests, but finally gave up on it, because I got more consistency with my Big Shot. I'm sure others are much better at it than I, and my hat is off to you whoever you are.

I've had the same experience - fixed it with an elastic band which opens the valve. The amount of time it takes to pressurize the barrel is really important - there are a lot of elaborate valve designs (co-axial valves, burst disc valves, etc) to work around this. I've found that using a loop bungee works well enough for me - just hold the valve handle in place, and stretch the bungee from another point on the launcher over the handle to arm. Quickly flick the edge of my thumb off the handle, and pfoooof!

Here's a pretty extreme example of the same - with a more elaborate trigger mechanism
