JeffGu - I agree. This is why I started this thread in an attempt to vet some information and steer my tool investments in the proper direction.
I received the information 2nd hand from the saw shop. A friend of mine bought 3 540's from the shop and the shop, just after the Husky rep gave...
One alibi that I heard about these 500 series saws. Please correct me if I am wrong.
They have to be initialized by a shop before you get the saw.
You have to run it full bore right out of the box cutting in to some big wood otherwise you computer sets the saw below its optimal performance...
Thank you for the input. I am trying to decide what direction I would like to go to when it comes to the 500 series. I have the climbing saw and boy it preforms. what I do not like is trying to start the thing. Once warm it floods every time rendering it useless. Almost chucked it out of...
True. you can shorten the left stem by 1/3 to 1/2 depending on the best reduction area and cable. I would be hesitant to brace.
You could recommend planting another tree to take its place in 5 years then do a phased removal on this one.
Don't we have a BMP describing the ill effects of fertilizing construction damaged trees? Usually a death sentence to a stressed tree by inducing canopy growth that the roots cannot support.
Do you have a sprinkler wetting the trunk on a routine basis?
There is cracking in the bark. is this bark alive or does it chip off?
How about the bark that is dark in color? if so then how far around the trunk does it chip off?
Your pear tree appears to have signs of a lightning strike in the photo. Is that a zipper down the main trunk? Was there a storm just before the decline?
This is petty but I could not resist.
Treevet - I live in Florida. Lots of beach and sunshine. Not to mention 5 hurricanes in a year, severe thunderstorms every day during the wet season from May - October, the occasional tornado. You know stuff like that.
Question: Are you referring to wedges? These have failed and I will not use them.
Rig Guy Wire stops are a mechanical connection using a physical connection on the entire cable.
Cons on standard rigging. Too much hardware. Too many failure points both mechanical and human installation...
Jeff Pass - I would recommend to stop what you are doing to this tree. Please put the box store solutions down. There is a reason they sell this stuff. To make money. Some of the most respected members of the Arborist community are giving you advise for free.
So far we have obvious...
