yeah i don't have any of them things lying around, right? Ha! here's part of an email i wrote to CMI:
'As a daily climber, one of the actions we do repeatedly is re-crotch to get higher in the tree. Nothing aims, throws farther, and coaxes back to me thru grabby bark more reliably than heavy...
The way i have this outlined... would that be a correct cut to allow healing? The homeowner used what little crotch is left to re-hang his VLF antenna, but i could always sling the tree to create an attachment point for him, and make the cut properly.
Just a quick note, the picture on some of your favorite gear sites may look familiar, but unfortunately when it arrives you'll be stuck w/this.
I like a lobster claw for my working end cause it doesn't entangle in carabiners. No way will that work w/the new piece. In fact, for a long time I...
You all are breaking my heart. I had hoped to do one of those climbing vacations early next year. So far as I know there's only one, Tree Climbing Planet. Of course, the sadness I feel is for potential loss of the majesty of these beings, and very little to do w/my personal experience.
God...
I'm a one-man show, small operation, and I work solo everyday. Only occasionally do I hire a 'young bull' when needed. Different rates for skilled vs. cleanup. Of course, my clients know this and I choose them, and they choose me, based on less (or no) cleanup on my part, and the scope of the...
i JUST realized something... sometimes my saw doesn't 'bite' into material the way i'm used to. i've been wondering why for years. NOW i know! it's cause i have NOT been filing my depth gauges after filing my chain. Yes yes, i have seen in my saw manuals, all the info about how to correctly...
Damn, this turned into a kind of "Adhesives 101". Thx! i've also recently purchased 2-part PC7, originally for an undersink project. takes awhile to dry but seems to be good as well. Although it's NOT malleable once dry, so not a fit for some of the applications here.
May be worth mentionng...
Jeez, glad i asked. Certainly LOOKS faster than hand filng, which takes me about 20-30 mins for a 24" bar. Guess i go a little too slow?
OK so on the subject of hand filing... i use the correct dia file, of course. i follow the angle of the chisel, and i file a few different ways during...
Mind if I change the object? This fits nicely w/your subject line... this is a FB ad for a chain sharpener. Anybody know if this invention's any good? Sure LOOKS good LOL!!!
Today we say bye-bye to this long-dead ash where noisy blackbirds would CAW CAW CAW obnoxiously all GD day long. Hope their new perch is a little farther away!
New installation shoots straight. Much harder to pull back, kinda hurts my fingers a little to hold and release. Much stronger now, and no need to pull back nearly as far as with the old stuff. If stretched 2/3rds down the pole the new tubing can sling a 12oz throwbag 65-70 ft easy
Today... I worked amidst colossal blossoms of azalea, under clear 80° skies, pruning pines and cedars while enjoying their shade. Got nailed a few times elevating prickly holly, and dragged lots of brush. A good day.
Holy Hard Work Batman, nice job. As for the Fire Bush... for sure, PA will 'come after you' if you have the gall to plant such an invasive. I had one on my old property, grew to a 15ft dia. New Year's Eve ball. I cut it back to knee high stumps. It really didn't care. Sprouted right back...
Thanks for your thoughts and observations. No, they are not reverse thread. I've taken them apart before. One of my best friends is a top mechanic and he says the same thing about alum - it reacts with other metals. I was very slow and careful, taking these off. I didn't use any power...
Follow-up: Changed my sling rubber today. All of your advice was spot on. I measured the new rubbers before I started; they were pretty even. No need to cut any off. Getting the old tubing off was, MUCH to my surprise, by far the hardest part. Alcohol and water mixture helped the new tubes...
Yes I know the thread title is gibberish-ness.
I was cleaning and inspecting some of my CMI micro-pulleys. I use these not only for fairlead on lanyards and mechanical advantage rigging configurations, but I climb on them in my rec trees ALL THE TIME. The ones in the TIP's in my recreational...
"How bad is the soil?"
I don't know. The client explained she won't be available to give me the tour for a few weeks. I really appreciate you experienced professionals taking the time to weigh in on this. Aside from whatever clearing I can do (of course I'd like to help her out) I will...
