    broken ring and funny world

Thanks for the emails. Agree about the facts. They remain; Unmarked rings like the one that failed were shipped to us from Kong Italy. SherrillTree enacted and financed the recall voluntarily in an effort to protect climbers. SherrillTree is no longer promoting Kong.

    broken ring and funny world

To whom it may concern, In August 2009 SherrillTree enacted a recall of “a very specific looking” unmarked aluminium ring not marked” following breakage that we believed was NOT normal under the circumstances of use. No serious injury or death was reported, therefore no recall was...

Agreed, Baileys is a fine place to shop. Visit them on some chain saw stuff so they can make it up. Glad we got your order right ArbWife but Lord knows we make mistakes, just erased one a minute ago. peace.

    Sherrill Shipping

Jeff L. I consider it my duty (and honor) to make things right for hard working clients of our operation. In your situation there's nothing I can "repair" unfortunately. Most orders in our systems by noon go out the same day and all but your oldest one were after 2pm. A quick cut and paste...

    Copy Cat Cobra Tree Bracing

Norm, From my recollection the 10:1 SWL figure has nothing to do with material differences rather were adopted by our industry due to the unusual dynamics almost always present in arb services. I still see many hardware and software manufacturers using the 4:1 method from tensile strength to...

Video of Cobra System on windy day???

Re: Video of Cobra System-Use a hybrid system Guy, Your opinions on cabling/bracing are well respected, most certainly by me. As a rule, the "recommendations" about static and dynamic use are solid, perhaps I should have installed the word "exception." The aforementioned typo (misspeak...

Video of Cobra System on windy day???

Re: Video of Cobra System-Use a hybrid system Macrocarpa, Your Cobra installation in this structure, and especially modest-sized maturing tree is fine, although appears a bit slack. If structure of cable host is rigid, installation without shock absorber is perfectly acceptable, especially...

first helm cam project, simple removal off willow

Tree styler, Although you'll surely catch drag for ppe I thought the vid was really strong. Also, your technique, saw and "movements" are really sharp. Shows you're comfortable in your style and it's seemingly quite efficient. Keep up the great videography ...and climb safe.

    Cougar Saddle Rings RECALLED

Guys, If I understand correctly Weaver was not sourcing their Cougar rings from Kong but right here in the states (imported). As I have discussed before (as well as Doug Heim), this rather distinctive looking non-anodized ring seems not to have been produced by Kong but merely sourced by them...

    Sad loss of Joey Cornell

Yea, I missed it but just read. It's shocking, both his loss and some attitudes. Peace

    Sad loss of Joey Cornell

It was reported to me that tree climber and tactical/military trainer Joey Cornell passed away last Saturday of (reported) natural causes. During his time among us Joey proved an enthusiastic and positive personality representing arboricultural practices, and found a unique niche to trophy...

    Climbing treadmill

It's been a while since I saw it but from recollection it was pretty simply (approximately) 1-in dia soft rope, maybe 15-ft overall length (7-ft tall) long spliced and wrapped over and under curved drums with a tensioner for adjusting friction Strictly an exercise machine. RE is in (Provo?)...

    Climbing treadmill

Tom, Rock Thompson has just such an animal (prototype) in the back of his mfg facility, only you don't need a harness to use it. It's really cool. Works like a simple treadmill, much like pictured. You never leave the ground and can increase tension to a point where just a minute or two of hand...

    Bolting vs wrapping

Inspections are necessary but ... I srongly suspect adjustments don't happen when needed. Totally support through-bolting these systems, perhaps with small, vertical steel back support. Seen too much girdling and poor practice. Often fail to guy tree to ground properly.

    Memories and friends

....and self promotion I suppose. Just watched this video for the first time in years. It was shot in 2005(?) shortly following the ITCC in Minneapolis. It's simply a GREAT MEMORY caught on tape by Billy Yauch! My hope is that others find the time (and energy) to create this sort of...

Send me your tired, your ugly hitch cords...

Just read an article in Climbing (rock climbing pub) titled dirty little rope secret (or something like that) showing prusik cord lost 40% strength after soiling with dirt and water. Research was performed by Search and Rescue Assoc. Pretty alarming deterioration IMO especially considering the...
