After I cut the end with a new razor knife, I use a small propane torch to really melt the end and then immediately crimp it with lineman's pliers or smash it against the top of my vise with an old putty knife to shape it into a blunt point. This will usually last for a while and seems to work...
I have a 194 that did this also. From day one. Took it back to the dealer a few times and they'd do something and it would go away for a bit and usually come back. Now I just live with it and curse the saw when I rarely use it.
I really like the Black Diamond haul bag I've been using for years because the material is very tough and its simply constructed. It's just one giant tube with backpack straps and a small zipper pocket inside where I keep a scrench, ppe and gloves. The material is VERY stiff and durable and the...
I used Veritread when I shipped my truck and chipper from NE Washington to Boise when we moved this summer. I got tons of bids and ended up going with one of the cheapest ones and it all worked out fine. Good luck with everything and congrats on the new equipment!
I too was involved in this oopsie. Of course I took the opportunity to brow beat everyone I encountered by saying things like "...As a board certified master arborist..." and so on.
It's like the old joke- how do you know if someone is a vegan/crossfitter/etc. Don't worry, they'll tell you.
Ordered new replacement muffs, will probably be a big improvement. I really like the ability to tuck them up under the helmet when not in use so I'll stick with stock and get some earplugs for extended chipping and big sawing. Thanks for participating, everyone!
This is a very good question. Too long... At least 1.5 years. I'll get the replacement pads and see how that goes. When cleaning the helmet last night, I noticed that an indentation had worn in them from being stowed in the helmet. I'm sure this has something to do with it.
Has anyone found earmuffs that offer a higher level of protection than the stock ones yet still work with the helmet? Is there an upgrade option out there?
I've been an arborist for 20 years and in that time I've worn a lot of different hats, er helmets. I started as a groundie, and quickly moved to climbing. I was a climber for residential companies for about 10 years then went on to work as an urban forestry instructor at a Job Corps center, then...
100% ! I'd like to think I'm good at it. I know it's won me some bids, when I write a detailed pruning prescription and plan and the other guy says "prune maple".
Good thread! I think another point that I didn't see brought up is - client expectations after pruning. Are they looking for a nice hedged globe tree or will they be happy with the inevitably scraggly loose tips that will occur if someone is making proper reduction cuts? I bet it's the former. I...
This brings back some memories! I used to have two pairs of these- until my wife donated them to The D. I. ( Deseret Industries is like the Mormon Goodwill store, we were in SLC, UT).
The pairs were drying on the backs of chairs in the dining room and she had a big donation pile going on...
