Why not? I've actually switch to using it both ways. Not sure why it performs better for me compared to any VT variation I've tried.
Don't get me wrong, I love the VT as well, just played with the Michoacan, while looking for a more compact hitch, and ended up loving it.
36" loop runner and a spare biner.
I can wrap around a limb a few times and use it as a redirect. I can use it as a step on a skinny top. I can use it as a handle on a piece I need to handle but doesn't really require rigging and may be a bit awkward until I can reposition after the cut and...
Latest model runs have it menacing the coast and then heading offshore, possibly not even making landfall. Pushed back east.
Storm chasers be damned, no one should have to deal with that mess.
Landfall should be northern SC coast, with Cape Fear NC being most likely from what I've seen. It's wet on the NC coast as is. The rivers are still full from the last system, and this one is looking to shoot right up the Cape Fear or Neuse.
No doubt the eastern part of NC will have a lot of...
It's funny how comp AR vs real life differ, or potentially could, or even AR practice.
Was visiting some old coworkers the other day during their morning meeting the day after an AR practice day. This is in no way a dig at the people involved, as they're far between climbers than I am, and one...
I'm not sure what it's like at the home office but I know up here at CLT shop it's ran through the same ole Sycamore out front. Talk to Jonathan and Alex about switching it up for us. Admittedly, I've never done it since being hired on by AG, but I've seen the tree and was told that's where it...
Is the 1/2" nerex suitable for ring slings?
I have about 40' of it, but I thought it was 5/8". Have to double check now because it's blue and came in a BOR. I'm sure it'll be fine for relatively light rigging.
I suppose the smart thing to do is dig up the specs.
I've never thought about that. It really doesn't matter where it's tied, in terms of falling into the block, as long as it falls the same way, as much as it does having the block as close to the cut as possible.
I always put the half hitch as low as possible. Guess that really isn't necessary.
Also meant to mention that my hitches react different depending on my anchor method.
If I canopy anchor, or if I have multiple redirects or a lot of friction between myself and my base anchor, the VT doesn't seem to react as quickly as say basal anchor, with a relatively low amount of contact...
Also want to add that I climb without gloves, and although we shouldn't be burning out on a FH, they still get hot if you descend any appreciable amount on them.
I find the michoacan is a more compact hitch, and seems to spread the heat over a larger area that your fingers touch, than the VT...
I have the salewa mountain trainer mid Gtx. I love them. Only used them a time or two with spikes but they're not worse than anything else I've used. A great compromise.
No break in period.
The only thing that has surprised me is I cut the leather on one boot (clean cut), and punctured it...
