I train fruit trees for structure, light and air penetration, better/ earlier fruiting, etc. Bending, propping, trellissing, spreading limbs.
Sometimes, I'll zip-ties limb tips together for screening and shaping.
At the big treehouse property that had an overgrown laurel hedge tipo over in the snow, 25-30' tall.
We cut it to 8' for ease of management, visual screening, and more light for the neighbors. There were gaps between 2 clumps...zip ties to fix it.
I also am making fruit tree arches for fenced orchard customers. Same treehouse property. They have a walkway on the north side of the fenced garden with an Asian pear at the northern property line. An arch to walk through is cool. It's a place to read a book or enjoy the Puget Sound.
Easier to prune, thin developing fruit, and harvest.
What are you training and why?
