I have the Yale and Samson versions, and I can't tell a difference. Perhaps - perhaps - the jacket feels slightly more like a Samson jacket (a la Vortex, Velocity - pliable, soft, etc.). BUT, it's so slight that it could be my imagination, and I certainly wouldn't bet anything of value on that...
Yeah - the level of work I'm doing doesn't warrant me getting into splicing anything more complicated than this, and the level of time I have to devote to it definitely doesn't warrant it; it almost seems like for a lot of people, splicing constitutes a hobby unto itself. No new hobbies for...
Last week, I needed another sling, and wanted a deadeye, so I ordered one form Wesspur which arrived today. 1/2" Tenex Tec.
After having gone and looked up the brummel stuff a little bit at y'all's prompting, I can see that this deadeye sling is simply a single triple-locked brummel with the...
Man, thanks for the resources, @Phil! Yeah, I meant doing a brummel in the end of the line, not a doubled over sling - way heavy and a waste, as you pointed out.
So, could I take a length of Tenex TEC and lock a rigging ring in there with a triple locking brummel, then taper and bury the tail, and have it be better/stronger than simply knotting an rigging ring on there? What would the downside to this be? This seems like a really simple way to make a...
Watched that video (at 2x speed...man, that's the only gotcha with vids, is the amount of time it takes to consume the info)...
That was pretty simple. Okay REALLY simple. Need to learn more about these brummels.
Thank y'all. I had no idea making an ultra was that simple! I may have to try this with a rigging ring or something. Is it easy to get it tight enough around the ring to ensure the eye won't elongate and run the risk of the ring popping out under loading?
Wish they'd come out with a top handle, now that I'm somewhat invested in the platform. I looked to see if there was a minimally-invasive way to convert their rear handle saw to a top handle, but it looks like that would require major surgery, moving the throttle switch.
Just got back from playing with rigging stuff in the yard under cover of darkness...
I don't think I mentioned it, but the original purpose of this was either a primary rigging point for light conventional rigging, or a redirect for the tail of a span rigging (double whip) setup.
I'm in the...
We got options, it sounds like - I already possess a deadeye Ultrasling (that I use with my RigNwrench) which I could biner the Pinto onto.
Anyone ever negative rig little tops into a Pinto? I'm guessing that's a scenario where not being able to get the shortest/tightest possible sling setup...
Dang, you're right - carabiner attachment to sling fixes that (edit - girth hitching does not fix that issue - derrrr; forgive me, guys, i'm really slow with visualizing this stuff).
So many options. I'm going to have to play with it when I get a chance and just see what works, is lightest, is...
