    Building a chip box

Considering the marginal overall size difference between an F550 and an F350, if you can, definitely get the F550.

Bucket truck newbie- tips, tricks, things you wish you knew

I've been an arborist for 20 years and in that time I've worn a lot of different hats, er helmets. I started as a groundie, and quickly moved to climbing. I was a climber for residential companies for about 10 years then went on to work as an urban forestry instructor at a Job Corps center, then...

    Reduction Pruning on Large Trees

100% ! I'd like to think I'm good at it. I know it's won me some bids, when I write a detailed pruning prescription and plan and the other guy says "prune maple".

    Reduction Pruning on Large Trees

Good thread! I think another point that I didn't see brought up is - client expectations after pruning. Are they looking for a nice hedged globe tree or will they be happy with the inevitably scraggly loose tips that will occur if someone is making proper reduction cuts? I bet it's the former. I...

Pfanner Stretch Air Climbing Pants (regular/small) slightly used

This brings back some memories! I used to have two pairs of these- until my wife donated them to The D. I. ( Deseret Industries is like the Mormon Goodwill store, we were in SLC, UT). The pairs were drying on the backs of chairs in the dining room and she had a big donation pile going on...

    owner operator lifestyle

I don't know if I've ever related more to a post on here. Thanks for saying what I'm thinking a lot of the time. I just moved to an entirely new area due to my wife getting a promotion so now I'm starting over, or maybe not. Might just sell everything.

    Fuel saver option? Worth it?

I have a 2016 Bandit 1390xp with a Cat tier 4 diesel and when I asked Bandit about setting the timer on the fuel saver, I was told that they recommend not using it on these diesels in order to avoid regen. problems with the dpf system. Best to letter rip I guess, at least with the engine I have...

    The Arduous Pack Test

I’m not on a crew. Not yet anyway. I took it thinking I would get my chipper signed up as a resource but then I’m learning that I need a three man crew, with each person having their RT 130 and all of the required PPE. I don’t think I’ll be able to find that in my rural area so it was an...

    The Arduous Pack Test

I did it this winter for the 1st time ever. I went from months of couch (no work all winter) straight to the test and I passed, with a couple of minutes to spare. It helped that I was able to chase a younger guy as he set the pace. Flat pavement for my test. I was sore for 3 days afterwards!

New Business Hauling Setup/ Chip v. Chipless

I vote chipper as well. Probably because that's all I've ever known really. Worked here and there very briefly with people with a dump trailer and it always just seemed second rate to me. However, good luck finding a decent used chipper that won't break the bank in this market. Dump trailer is...

Sales, bidding, estimating: what's your style?

This is such a great thread! I've been an arb for about 20 years and the last two years I've been in business for myself. I used to bid for a company that I cilmbed for for maybe 2-3 days a month, but now bidding has never been more important since it's just all me. I'm pretty much the sole job...

Challenges of diet for day workers who overwork
