General questions regarding 12 strand hollow braid splicing

Thanks for all the good information. I'll put up some pics when I get them done. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk

General questions regarding 12 strand hollow braid splicing

Thank you for the replies. I really appreciate all of your time. To be more specific, I am trying to figure out how to attach a x ring to a piece of Tenex to make a straight sling. I am not sure whether to use a straight bury or locking brummel. I would like to hear the rationale behind...

General questions regarding 12 strand hollow braid splicing

I have been splicing for several years now and have racked up quite a few double braid, three strand, and hollow braid splices. I would really like to do more hollow braid splicing. I have quite a few x-ring style projects that I would like to complete, but have been hesitant to pull the trigger...

    Pittsburgh fatality

I just have a hard time understanding this phenomena. Every month Tree Care Industry Magazine publishes accident and fatality reports, and every month there is at least on fatality or serious injury that was result of a fall from an elevated work platform. I look over these stats every month...

    If you had to choose

I use a RW almost everyday. I try to mitigate its faults by carrying a Rig on my saddle. I can use the quick change out speed of the Rig to execute pull-downs and changing from one rope to another in the tree (Triple Threat). I have a RR coming in March, which I am hoping will bridge the gap...

    3:1 MA for limbwalking

I use a Petzl Ascension as part of my ascent system. Once I reach my TIP, I put a wire gate revolver into the handle and hang it on my saddle, so it is ready for limb walks or hauling. I really like parking it on the line just above my RW and hauling up a chainsaw or rigging equipment. It is so...

    How to mark hardware

I also use nail polish. I try to just put a light dab of a bright color on a part of the piece that sees little to no use or abrasion. It has lasted for several years on my hitch climber, RW, and other daily use items.

    toothed cams in MA system

I recently went to a training seminar where Jared Abrojena was speaking and the topic of toothed cam devices was brought up. Apparently he in conjunction with Petzl did some tests and found that even at relatively low loads the devices that they tested had the potential to damage the rope. This...

    Show off them splices

I like to keep the whipping close to the splice. I like keeping things compact and out of the way. I believe there is less chance of it being abraded or snagging if it is closer to the biner. As for how I do it. I put my needle in a vise I have mounted on my bench and push the splice onto the...

    SRT Setup

I like having the hand ascender with me while I'm climbing SRT. For tricky limb walk returns I set it on the rope and throw a revolver in the bottom attachment hole and use it as an ad hoc RADS system for MA. The same set up works equally well for hauling things up into the tree from the ground...

    SRT Setup

I have been lurking around here for quite a while and have not had much to add to a conversation, but I believe that some of my recent experiences may add something to this discussion. Let me preface by saying that I am the only climber in my company that uses SRT for access or work positioning...

    Splicing with X-Rigging Rings

Thanks for the info. I have decided to splice a large ring onto some 5/8 dbl braid. Then I'll splice an eye & eye with 2 med rings (one on each end) out of 1/2 dbl braid for the prusik. That set up satisfies the three ring recommendation for a terminal rigging point and eliminates bulk in the...

    Splicing with X-Rigging Rings

LeviRockett, In the last two photos you posted there is a green tenex prusik attached to your dbl braid lines. How is the tenex prusik spliced. I'm sure the ring is attached w/ a locked brummell, but how do you create the large loop? Thanks for the help.

    Favorite hitch for SRT ascent?

I was experiencing the same problem w/ "hitch glide" I am climbing a rope wrench on kernmaster 11mm using op 8mm hitch cord. I found that the knut w/ 4 wraps (above the half hitch that captures the down leg of cord) works very well. I can ascend with a loose hitch and sit at any point and it...

The Confusing World of Bee Line

Alright, So what I understand so far is that the 8mm and the 10mm with blue tracers both have Vectran cores and are considered class II lines. So, if I wanted to make anything besides friction hitches out of it I could use class II double braid splicing instructions to do so? I just want to...

The Confusing World of Bee Line

Hey Guys, Okay, My goal is to make some eye and eye prusiks out of 5/16" and 3/8" Bee Line respectively. So far I have checked out the Yale website, contacted Sherrill and WesSpur and still have not been able to figure out what classification the ropes fall into, whether they are splicable or...
