    Usually whatever rope I was using for rigging. I have a ditty bag with 150' of 6mm cord but I hardly ever use it since a rigging line is usually closer at hand and a lot less stretchy.

    The closer you are to danger, the further you are from harm! Since the ascender holds the rope and inch or two behind the spike, they are usually kept mostly separate. Plus, the same motion that would drive the spike into your rope is the same motion that makes the ascender grab.

    Yeah that's true, no apex seals here, but looks like more metal on metal surface area which would require more oil getting burned, which was another problem with the Wankels, but less so with chainsaws! Could this be the 4 stroke engine that runs on mixed gas?

    I don't know enough about engines to say how this is different from the rotaries Mazda tried using, but I think those had some serious issues with temperature gradients that ended up warping the whole engine block.     If you're using a base anchor, make the end you're working on as short as possible for the work. If you're not doing any redirects, make it just touch the ground. This makes less work for you when climbing over branches since you don't have to pull as much rope through, and it makes it safer...
