    High winds last week blew large ice pan against the steel pilings underpinning this dock......bent them enough that the tenons on the posts were getting leveraged out of their pockets in the timbers supporting the roof. Bad. Used two gas capstan winches and a honking big 12V winch. Lotsa MA...

    15 years of doing tree work and had my first property damage today.

    Dropped a tree on my old chuck and duck once. Tree was a a bit taller than it appeared. Chipper hopped about two feet off ground. Only significant damage was a smallish crack in the drum housing...for which I received a $6000 repair estimate from the dealer. A friend of a friend welded it up...

    I can see it being useful / practical only mebbe 1X or 2X a year when negative blocking a spar located in a tricky spot, eg. middle of a raised deck adjacent to a cottage, with no adjacent trees. Just to save cutting and throwing a bunch of cookies when the remaining height of spar makes...
