Sewing (singer 29K)

For all of you sewing arborists out there... I have a chance of getting a singer 29K boot patch walking foot for $225.. I've been around these machines, and have even ran a few stitches... Any particular things I need to know about them? Certainly limiting as they do not have bottom thread capacity, and only straight stitches..
They seem to start off at a grand and can go as high as 2,500 on fee bay....
Thoughts welcome!

I don't want to spoil any surprises, but are you planning to make me a new pair of boots for Christmas?(y)

I don't know much about these machines, or what they can do with a non-chisel needle outside of leatherwork.

I just like the 1/4" with 92V.... A few layers with webbing, some leather work would be nice (think the OG Matt Cornell harness).

Price of $225 sounds good, and you can likely have a lot of fun with that machine.
eBay prices for sewing machines are often ludicrous, with an added insult of crazy shipping charges.
I came dangerously close to splurging on a Juki cylinder machine a few years ago, but didn't because the queen of the castle wasn't on board.

Brief google search of 29K model mentioned: "old patchers are often worn out in the feed mechanism under the head. If you can move the lifted presser foot 1/16 inch or more (fwd/bckwd), it is shot and the stitch length will be very short. I have seen patchers that barely sew 10 to the inch, due to completely worn out feed cams."

It does sound like a fun machine, it could definitely handle harness work. Great price, I would have concerns about buying it sight unseen, you just never know.

The best part is it's just down the road, offered for sale via buy/sell/trade on facebook! Ebay is a scam, and thanks for the info on the presser foot I think I read the same forum...
@Pelorus would you pick it up? I think max stitch is about 5 or less per inch, v92 (max thread without messing things up), and can sew 1/4 - 5/16

I'd check it out ... especially at that price. recently purchased an old industrial Singer myself with new motor for $200. Figured I can do a lot with it, and upgrade to a larger machine for more serious leather stitching later.
