Thanks! Gave it a try tonight....First time splicing a double braid, if this is "easy" then I'm glad I didn't start with something harder!
Things I may have done wrong:
After it was nearly complete, I saw footnote 3 of the instructions: "Avoid snagging the core with the tip of the fid when it...
@Santiago Casanova I just got a piece of this too and started a thread on splicing it here http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/threads/reep-schnur-splicing-method.37860/ I've received a couple good instructions on it. Will probably give it a try tonight!
What's the appropriate method for splicing Teufelberger Sirius Reep Schnur? I found instructions on Teufelberger's site (link below), but they only mention Sirius down to 12mm, not 10mm reep schnur -- Is it the same construction / should I follow the same instructions scaled appropriately...
@Brocky Ah, thanks, makes sense -- I finally got a chance to try out some different configurations this weekend. Using the same 10mm armor-prus, but distel instead of blake's, it was much more responsive -- almost too touchy the first time I tied it. Time to keep tweaking!
Bartlett ships pretty fast, my hook showed up Friday, and I skipped out on a couple hours of family Easter stuff to climb a bit. Review: The Captain is pretty neat, though the particular tree I was climbing was more tall than wide and there wasn't anything else nearby to try to transition to...
Hmm, if you like supple what about something like Yale Blaze? 11mm instead of 10mm, but I have a lanyard made of Blaze that's pretty easy to work with and it's real cheap by the foot.
Well, looks like I don't have an excuse to wait to get one of these anymore! And maybe try a Hitch Climber....
Hmm, looks like bartlettman only has the Hook by itself -- Is there a preferred rope to pair with it? Right now I only have 1/2" climbing lines, which seems a bit large for the Hook...
I can't offer much in the way of what works and what doesn't, as I'm still figuring that out myself -- but there are ways to get "sample packs" of different kinds of hitch cord that you can play with on your own -- such as http://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?category_id=127&item=11163 or...
I've wondered about this just from what I've observed -- seems like once the wood hits the ground, into the chipper it goes. I hate seeing big, straight logs getting turned into chips, though I guess you guys are paid to make the wood disappear and the faster that happens the better. I wonder...
Follow-up: I got an itchy clicking finger on treestuff and bought a Tree Austria 3.2. which just arrived today. I've only had time to hang in it for 10 minutes or so inside so far, but initially I like it. Need to do some adjustments still, but it sure beats a rock climbing harness!
Not sure how popular the Treestuff "Bag O' Rope" is -- but I noticed that in the product reviews, people will say anything from "Yay! I got <some rope A>" to "This sucks, all I got is <some rope A> and I really wanted <some rope B>" I've bought 2 of these bags so far, and I've gotten good...
In my day job (totally different business, but hourly services based) we use Toggl. It has a mobile app, or can be used from the website, and you can set up an account with multiple users and see summaries of how users' time is divided up. Some features are only available with their...
I just received a Silky Sugoi as an early christmas present, no complaints! Pretty aggressive / fast cutting -- but I've seen some people say it's too aggressive, and mostly useful for larger cuts, and the Zubat is better for all-around use. Never used a Zubat so I don't know.
@treebilly -- thanks! Let me know what you find out -- Endor's looks like a cool store from the photos, if they have saddles I can try it'll be worth the trek.
@craneguy1 -- I'm definitely not doing this for 40 hours a week at this point! I kind of suspected that they might all be pretty...
