    Beech Leaf Disease

I did not know that. The company I consulted told me that they were working with the state of Maryland on a substance for trunk injection. They did not say what that substance was though. I will probably call them to discuss further or possibly talk to the competitor.

    Beech Leaf Disease

Thank you for the thorough explanation! Hopefully approval will be swift to prevent loss. Maryland is one of those highly regulated states though so we’ll see. Kind of a shame that an intelligent and proficient applicator is so restricted as it could stifle innovation. I understand the point of...

    Beech Leaf Disease

Great news. They said they were working with the state to get something approved. Glad to see it’s available. Thank you!!!! Is there no freedom to use off label?

    Beech Leaf Disease

I’m in Maryland. Yeah, I agree that pruning didn’t strike me as prudent. The tree will have enough trouble trying to feed itself, so I don’t see why further limiting its food source would be advantageous. Google searching did reveal that some sources are recommending pruning, but I really don’t...

    Beech Leaf Disease

Yessir. I’m very familiar with the leaf patterns and neighbors trees were diagnosed by county foresters. I’ve tracked BLD in every state park I mountain bike in. It’s everywhere unfortunately.

    Beech Leaf Disease

I had a known PHC company look at a large beech in a wooded area of my property. They recommended a pruning / thinning of the canopy to allow more light and air penetration. They also recommended Phosphite fertilizer be applied twice. No trunk injections available at this time and canopy...

You got his number from the DM I sent?

    WANTED: SRT/MRT teacher

I love me some climbs. I don’t speed down anything anymore after a nice facial scar. Just can’t risk breaking bones. The fitness comes from pointing the front tire up anyway and that’s the big reason I ride, to keep heart disease and diabetes at bay.

I sent a message to an Arizona climber. We’ll see what he says.

    Beech Leaf Disease

Thank you for your detailed response. I’m glad to see the beech’s you’re treating are holding up well. Now would be the time for Potassium phosphite application based on your soil temp advice. I am glad that it’s not a “1 season death sentence”. It’s crazy how fast it spread though. Our...

    Beech Leaf Disease

Is anyone effectively treating BLD? I’ve heard about success with polyphosphite 30 applied as a soil drench. I’m not into PHC but have a beautifully massive beech on my property that I want to save from this damned nematode.

    I had to comment!

They need helmets and the guy on the grapple needs to be tied onto that loader with the proper harness and fall arrest gear ;)

    Beech bark disease?

I wonder, does the Nectria canker need a beech scale infestation in order to take hold or can it be secondary to another stressor or issue?

    Beech bark disease?

I deadwooded a f Grandifolia (murican beech) yesterday and was surprised by the amount of deadwood (picture of quantity below). There were many (15) tips in the upper canopy where bark was missing and dieback occurred. A few 4” leaders were dead as well. I took out part of a living lead as it...
