Today....

Storm broken, long ago topped shore pine. Good sized for a shore pine, 34" dbh, maybe 60+ tall.

Two leaders ripped out of the main leader, opposite the road.

Got called to assist another tree company with this large failed oak
Wasn’t a lot of time for pics when everyone waiting on me! I had two climb lines and we used 1 grcs one stein and 6 blocks and rigging lines and our crane for some of crown we could reach!View attachment 97716View attachment 97717View attachment 97718View attachment 97719View attachment 97720View attachment 97721

What an easily predictable tree failure, they sure got lucky it hung up in that tree instead of landing on the house and the sunroom!

Same perhaps the world around? Hard to believe anyone could look at that and not make a call straight away!
Perhaps ! I spoke briefly with the homeowner in passing for a few and he was very nonchalant ! Had another dead white oak over the front of his house , crispy acually you can see it in the pics by the chimney .. not one worry about it ! Ha! I didn’t talk to him about that tree as I was just the sub but the tree service I worked for said he wasn’t concerned enough to remove it !

You’ll be back, for sure!

I was looking at some projects for a customer the other day and he wanted to show me a few of the special trees in the area, which is known for the older and larger trees on the island.

What I got to see was probably the largest doug fir on the entire island where I live, 7-8' in diameter, 150+' tall and a 50' wide canopy. pictures certainly don't do it justice (and yes there are larger trees in Moran State Park on Orcas...). But our area was logged essentially bare about 100 years ago, so big/old trees are really something special. Later in the week, I was doing a thinning project of young trees where they were literally 6" apart thanks to re-growing after a clear-cut. Me and my one employee made 40 yards of chips in 11 hours of brush cutting.

6" apart, little dog-hair fir or 6' apart plantation spacing?

Tiny trees, just what regrew on its own. In some areas, hundreds and hundreds of trees smaller than broom sticks packed in together.

We can get that with White Pines once in a while around here. When a gap opens up in a Pine dominated area, they definitely come in densely spaced.
