Orchard ladders are great! And very hard to find… We’ve had a new 16’ Hasegawa on order for about six months now from Gap Arborist Supply. Some day it will appear, I hope.
I was lucky. Ordered it on a Thursday morning and my local supplier had it in from the manufacturer by Friday afternoon. Last one at the warehouse.

Do you not have a long hedge trimmer? Or is it just not the right tool for the job for some reason? If I did any hedge work I imagine it would be a tool I'd purchase pretty quickly.

I have orchard ladder envy! I've considered getting one to make trimming tall shrubs easier, but am still managing with a step ladder and some cribbing.
I managed most of the year with a step ladder, but then had 5 or 6 larger hedges come in one after the other. Decided to splurge and zero regrets. It pays for itself in one job and makes life easier (and safer)

I have the Husqvarna extendable battery trimmer with 15ft reach. It does the side no problem, but when the hedge is 20ft tall and 10ft wide you need a ladder for the tops.

We have one, with an extension, but it won’t reach to trim the top of a 15’ tall, 5’ wide hedge, and it’s a lot cheaper to send out a ladder than a lift, plus it’s easier on the lawn.

I have a Stihl HL-94 (145°) which has a 59" shaft, 24" blades, 95" overall length and it's barely enough to get the tops of some shrubs when on a 6 ft step ladder, sometimes on the step you're not supposed to use. Considerable lateral reach is required to prune the tops of tall large diameter shrubs. And the higher you are, the better you can see what you're doing. This one is about 10 ft tall and 6+ feet in diameter, pita to get a nice symmetrical rounded top.

Doing this hanging dead limb removal gave me a chance to meet the people next door to where I was planning the dead tree removal. It made it a little easier to ask their permission to drop the dead tree on their property.

Speedlining is fun, but I'm beginning to like using a control rope even more.

Been busy this week...
removing unwanted low limbs from a live oak.

removing two small dead trees and dead limbs from three trees in a play area. I had to avoid dropping things on the trampoline and above-ground pool.

This morning I got down this dead cedar that was leaning against the neighbor's rickety fence and several feet over his yard. I got a line about halfway up and secured it to a nearby tree to keep the dead tree from moving further toward the fence.

Then I made a cut near the bottom to move it away from the fence followed by two cuts to get it more vertical to reduce the pressure against the other tree. I tightened the rope between cuts to pull it away from the fence. Then I lifted the bottom of the tree as I was pulling it back, and it fell without hurting the plants..

After that if was an easy cleanup/haul to the curb job.

My wife said it was time to do a 'little' work in our own yard.

Our new neighbors put up a nice privacy fence, so we no longer needed all this in the back yard. Now I can concentrate on my latest hanging dead limb removal. It's off to a good start with a one-shot line placement.

This morning I got down the big hanging dead limb shown in post 3177 above. I was able to remove a bunch before lowering it to the ground and moving it all to the curb.
