rope runner pro

Here's a couple question for Kevin / Nick (@treebing &/or @bonner1040 )

If the serviceable replacement parts are any different, is the pro runner intended to eventually replace the non-pro runner while the non-pro runner is phased out over time, while continuing to service and sell replacement parts, or will the non-pro version stop being supported altogether?

I understand the significance of the upgrade, but the new name gives me the feeling that non-pro users are going to be made to feel somewhat inadequate. What are your thoughts on that?

This was answered earlier in two different responses from Kevin, I'll paraphrase below. Kevin and/or Nick are free to verify or disagree ;-)

1. The Rope Runner 1 will continue to be made by CMI and will continue to be available, it is not replaced by the Rope Runner Pro.

2. The Rope Runner Pro name is a product name that Notch came up with. There is no inference that you're a pro or not a pro if you use the Rope Runner 1 or the Rope Runner Pro.

3. This is my own contribution... of course you're supposed to feel inadequate if you don't buy the latest and greatest, that's Sales & Marketing 101! However I just obtained 1000 doses of Rope Runner 1 Viagra, it will make any RR1 user feel completely adequate! Order now before supplies become inadequate!

Clearly, the pro version totally supersedes the non pro for all the above stated reasons, so I'm guessing the non-pro's price will come down into the $250 to $300, or less, price range, as evidenced in the past when it was on sale. As for the notable improvements of the pro vs the non-pro, I think the non-pro is still an amazing product (if properly priced) and the pro is that much better. Maybe there's even a way for the pro and non-pro to be bundled together, as a dual-SRS.
 
We will definitely see, but machined components vs forged, the OG RR is probably more costly to produce. TreeStuff had a sale on RR last year for 240$ so I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re right though.

I have only heard stories about the akimbo and pitch and I have never had any trouble operating an akimbo. Excellent device. Hitch cord I have dealt with pitch and its hard to clean off, but you can kind of burn it off. This is an area where I am not so helpful because of geography.

I use RR's all the time as a go-to for spruces oozing goo (and pines and fir and the like) - it seems only marginally affected and is easy to clean up with isopropanol or even acteone. In most of these trees I get ~ two days use out of a rope before it has to be de-gooped. The RR's cope really well, so if the new one is like it's daddy, it'll be a blessing.
Good job Kevin and Nick! Will black be available? RopeRunnerSon or Rope Runnerdóttir?
 
At the video's 21 second mark, you get a brief glimpse of the RRPro's front side in the open position. Easy on and offs!!! Woohoo! Still, I'm looking forward to a more descriptive video showing off the actual mechanics.

Looks like a great device. Getting the original rr on and off the line is easy enough for me but I recently bought the 4SRT bird flap for mine. I really like it but it sure makes it harder to get the top pin in and out. Nearly impossible with gloves on. Looks like the beak on the new one is almost sharp as the original. I really only need the bird flap for breaking it loose after hanging in one place for a bit.

The top edges are round over.

The biggest complaints of the RR 1 were

1) comes apart in three pieces and is hard on and off the rope.

2) sharp edges on the hands and also on the rope

3) Jerry rigged tending point.

These three things were our main focus to try to solve without sacrificing overall function. I think we did that.
 
I like the idea of a parking brake. What are some other tools that have one? I think the new spiderjack has one correct? I'm not aware of other tools with that feature. I have never used a tool that has a parking brake. So its not ever really been on my radar. I have difficulty imagining it. It clearly sounds like it would be safer.
