Another observation with this discussion:
Our industry has borrowed techniques, terms for gear, & methods from all sorts of professions. But, they all were influenced by one trade/profession that goes back many millinea: Ships/sailing.
As I have done some side research on the terms yaw, pitch, and roll. Guess what? There are 3 more terms that we may want to consider. --Yeah, I know. This is going to make some people mad and/or "rock the boat".
Ship motions can experience yaw, pitch, and roll. And those terms are use to describe
rotational motion. Ships also heave, sway, and surge. And those are motions called
"translations". <---That link is like siting my work. Click it to confirm that I'm not pulling this out of my arse.
Heave: is the linear vertical (up/down) motion.
Sway: is the linear lateral (side to side) motion.
Surge: is the longitudinal (front and back) motion.
