yard signs

[ QUOTE ]
Such sight-reference customers represent nearly 1/3 of all our new customers.

Just needed to make a correction, I should have said new contacts, meaning of the calls we get about a third come from people who saw us and/or our sign while working.

Sorry for the confusion!

TreeDr, you must be God's gift to treework if referrals alone carry you and advertising is just for the the hacks. Heck, no need for a name to go with a face when joe shmoe gets home from work and sees that his neighbor had treework done. Let me guess, tree work gets done in your community and everyone automatically knows it was your company and already has your number memorized.

I must be in the wrong town or something. I should quit my pig ways and knock off the advertising. That or do treework as good as you.

Tucker:

I know lots of tradesmen with referrals as their sole source of business. After a long time in a trade (if you do good work) it is kind of the way business flows.

I cannot totally live off of the referrals and repeat business, yet. I'm at 60% (documented) phone calls from current customers and referrals combined. Each phone call is asked where they heard of me. I have records as far back as 2002 (when I started the business).

Does this mean I will not try creative forms of advertising if my customer base is huge? Absolutely not. I'll continue to be the "purple cow."

Thats all good and fine Mayer. Really. I know a bizzilion tradesmen as well. And yes, I know a number of people living on referrals alone. If you lay into a broad group of guys for an advertising technique, one of em will fire back.
