You guys should talk Luke and Nick into breaking some stuff -- as a public service![]()
They're surprisingly easy to make once you get all the measurements. It's just hollow braid splicing so you could make the whole thing with a ballpoint pen if you wanted.I want a double Beast sling! Looks awesome. Maybe one of you guys will make one for others in the future?
I'm sure I could manage with the right guidance and info, but I'd rather someone else do it until I get some practice. I don't want to drop some large wood into shitty splices. They're surprisingly easy to make once you get all the measurements. I can agree with that. The first few times I use mine it's going to be in places with no targets just so I can see how it reacts. I'm confident in it, but I'm also not a pro splicer, so I don't want to be dropping stuff into it over someone's roof.I'm sure I could manage with the right guidance and info, but I'd rather someone else do it until I get some practice before I drop some large wood into it.
Only one way to find out. I'd email Nick Bonner and have one broken for sure. What a lightweight option for rigging down the spar.If I were to submit the idea to the guys at ABR/TreeStuff do you they'd be willing to produce them?
I've always felt the same way about whoopie , always dead eyes, but the thing is easy to use in some situations I forgo adjustments and consume cordage with half wraps and such ,but the basket configuration the whoopie allows with 3 rings on old fart style is outstanding then being able to get the big wood down with same sling different setup that takes only a minute to change over is sweet. I love mine.. lovveee iittt! Highly recommend that thing!I'd try out Old Fart's Beast Whoopie but have never been a big fan of whoopies. I like the dead eye.
I block down oak on that mofo ..it loves the job! Some trees I'd be cool with that for sure. But lets say blocking down a silver maple or shagbark hickory; id much rather the dead eye. I must keep and open mind though!
I tend to skip the med and smaller rings I go big or not at all. I use 1/2" rigging lines so if I use beasts everywhere I stay pretty safe for anything bend radius wise. Unless big wood and then I double the rings up.XRR fs for sure.
I have a L ring on a single short tail for a rigging redirect and a M Ring on a long tail for a redirect above the lowering device when needed as well.
I get ya. I just happened to have a free M ring laying around so I use it above the lowering device just to redirect the angle. It doesn't usually see much load or tough angles. Sometimes you gotta use what you have instead of what you want!I tend to skip the med and smaller rings I go big or not at all.
