At first it's like blah the competitor in me ,is like this overglorifi......... Holy sh-;/;:;?.thats cool oh man that's cool oooooooooman that just happened .......... Then I remembered all the bad films I've seen ,,,,,,,,,, your stuff is great.. Now where do I get that block?
 
I never really "Got" the brit humor on TV etc... not my thing, yet a lot of people seem to think its funny so it must be...

I was only on site for a day... they spent a lot of time setting up and waiting for camera positioning etc.. good production otherwise... someday we should do a "making of tree videos" video

I've been following this thread and when I came to this, I was clueless as to what it referred to. I see it got a couple of likes so must be something I am not on to. I totally thought Reg meant what he said and didn't mean it as a crack or humor. What gives, David?

Reg is straight shooter likes his vids to show the work side of arborculture. David on the other hand is a showman with his vids and likes to show the comradery between workers. Both as good as the other, imo.
 
No. My post doesn't make sense in this order. I had two posts ahead of it that were either deleted by moderator or I screwed up with my phone and they didn't get posted like I thought afterall.
It's for the best likely anyway. it probably sounded attacking.

Reg, job was Liriodendron tree removals for a garage to be built on side of the house. Obstacles was house, electric and utility lines between the trees ( not easily visible on film) .
I think 5 trees removed. All material went. Stumps ground out DEEP. stump grindings cleaned up and hauled away.
job would have normally taken ONE long day.
Filmning to that level slows things to 2.5 times longer. I was getting stir crazy hanging and waiting for camera to be just right on some of the "set ups" (don't want to give away the techniques used; august's creations) . But if you want killer video perspective; you have to sacrifice production.
I spent 2 1/2 days on that job total.
plus then add in time lawrence and I filmed little tid bits later that August requested. My road scene. Lawrence ghost image running. My blade tapping. Hobbs running rope.
It was an exhausting production for August I'm sure, so when you've put so much into a project, it might be hard to hear anything slightly negative from anyone.
But we are tree guys and we all have egos that get too big at times. So August and anyone in the spotlight needs to have tough skin. Our peers can be tough at times. Not that your comments seemed tough or negative to the average reader.
There is a LOT that Reg includes in his comments he writes.
I get them, more than he knows that I do probably. I might even understand more about his motives or reasons MORE THAN he knows HIMSELF.

Hope this all reads well enough. Done on my phone because I didn't want Reg to think I was ignoring thread. Nothing is wrong.

Reg, I have no problem with you by the way. As always. I'm SURE I will always consider you as a friend.
 
Ya, about the road trip. You don't fly then drive in the tunnel then get on the subway to Brooklyn to arrive in wonderland Pa. something to work on next vid for us who know a little something about travel. Just kidding David.

I dont 'get' how Augusts video brought tears to your eyes either....I mean I totally don't get that or the whole 'themed/movie' tree video thing. I'm just saying. Wasn't trying in the least to be funny about it.

As for Brit humour. Well, some tv shows are ok, and others are a disaster. Same anywhere. Most of the time TV is BS anyway. You would probably have to live in the UK and then decide if you could generalize the humor.

David, that looked like it would have been a tall order for one day with stumps and full clean up, but I'll take your word for it.

For the record I have no issue with David. He's not sneaky, I know where I stand with him. He'll poke me online a little, for fun....and I'll return gesture. There's no malice there at all. I would trust him with my kid, and that's fukcn saying something.

As for the suggestion of him knowing more about what im thinking than I do, well, thats impressive I have to say.
 
Ha ha, I love this freakin banter...all good chit...again I love brit humor...the brits are funny....but hey I live in a country that was raped by the brits and the influence is so strong here...I even talk partially like one...sort of...ah my rambling but who gives a chit...my kids are half english...me I am a mutt....as for you two...damn you guys can do a good mambo...back and forth thingy...good read...I respect you both and your contributions....keep it up.....
 
As a relatively new climber I find these videos incredibly inspiring and entertaining. Is this one a little over the top? Lens flares like a JJ Abrams movie, mid-air high fives, a dude wearing pole saw blades like wolverine? Hell yes, that shit's waaaay over the top. But while watching these guys go at it I can't but help be inspired. Part of what I love about tree work is the fact that it's ever evolving and there always seems to be a new and better way of doing stuff. These videos showcase new techniques in an exciting way. I'm constantly stopping, rewinding and pausing while watching in an effort to figure out just what the hell is going on and if it's something I think I could do. You don't go to a Slayer concert cause you want Kerry King to slow play "War Ensemble," you go there cause you want your face melted off. Much is the same with these videos, you watch them to be entertained.

crikey thats a whole lot of philosophy about some tree cutting, amazing what came out of the bag this time.
so some people like this some people like that , no surprises there can't please all the punters all the time.
Adkpk is calling it best there is a lot more to the vid game than is apparent just watching these films and films are what they have become.
My work currently is what I can patch together from one lens one point of view, as theX-man says it takes that extra time and effort to make a vid into
a X-treme film, music selections aside anyone willing to put in so much effort and time into a project not offering any financial rewards for efforts spent is
a labor of love and can be a touchy subject to the creator.
But that seems to be the main divide - did the job dictate the run of the filming or was the job just there for the set?
won't stop me from watching like Reg's style as much as Davids or Brians or whoever is making them, they don't cost me a cent to view, I get to learn cool stuff, see new things that I would want to purchase ( treestuFF!) and generally am entertained whether it is a 201 getting trucked up or a cat rescue its all good here Bro.
