X-ring, ring and ring sling info

As am I, but with certain slings I want them to last a little longer than most, due to the cost of materials and the amount of time and effort that I put into them! Especially when I'm splicing extremely fancy and time consuming ones. I also like the Cordura on heavy wear spots.

I use a lot of chafe sleeve... same reason, really. I want it to last as long as possible, if it's something I think I'm going to like, or some special purpose thing, or the materials were expensive, etc. You gotta allow for your time and frustration of making it, too. I'd rather not do something over again, when a little (fairly cheap) chafe sleeve might double or triple its lifespan. You can always cut the chafe sleeve off when it gets ragged or chewed up... and then the sling will still have a lot more wear life left in it. Some items, you can get new chafe sleeve back on them, some you can't. I've got a couple that I used the 1" and then the 1.5" over that. Both of them are really holding up well. I thought there might be the possibility that the multiple layers (rope sheath, two sleeves) could experience a lot of internal friction from moving in different directions or at different rates, and wear internally. But, I can't see any sign of that happening.

That Cordura chafe sleeve is some pretty tough stuff. I've been impressed with its performance. It adds a little weight and bulk, but it's a sling... who cares? It's rather baggy, of course, and that affects how smoothly it goes in and out of a tight crotch... but again, is that really a big deal? I've jerked them through crotches that were so tight I am reasonably sure that the sling would have gotten some sheath damage (Polydyne slings) or serious picking (Tenex slings) without the chafe sleeve, so I'm pretty sold on the stuff.

So true Jeff, I saw a safebloc sling that SamaraiJoe uses that's on Instagram and I'm just mesmerized how he made it/or had it made, but it incorporates an X Ring and a SafeBloc for negative Rigging and his response was that the X Ring allows a tighter bite on the trunk. I'm gonna have to investigate the snot out of this thing! It's a Sling of Beauty! Maybe Jared or Joe would take a pic of this Bad Boy so I can reproduce it. I can't wrap my head around how he can tighten a Sling with 2 fixed ends and capable of wrapping it around the trunk! If anyone knows what or how it is configured, what I'm trying to explain, I would be very much indebted to them! Oh, while we're on the subject of X Rings, crazy me just bought $350 of different sizes and manufacturers of them! I think I'm gonna be really busy for the next few week nights! Now I need some 14-20mm Sirius Bull Rope, I've got miles of Stable Braid and Tenex!

Jeff, are you saying it looks like the Safebloc is girthed through an XRR?

Who's teats
Yes, Raven27. A straight bury is adequate. Just follow the splicing guidelines for the Class of the rope (1 or 2). All of the info you need is in the Samson Splicing Guide that you mentioned. Read through it carefully as not to over build or under build your product. I'd also recommend putting some numbers to your work and break test some gear before putting a ground man beneath it.
Who tests these, cost, time to get them back?

You can try contacting the arbor reps for the brand of rope used in the sling. Every rope manufacturer has a different style break machine that requires different eye sizes and minimum sling lengths. Each company rep will give you the parameters to build for their particular machines.

If not there, try asking someone like Jason of @Height (an independant splicing house), or even retailers with in-house splicing.

I happened to be scrounging through my extra gear bins and came across 6 Beast X Rings and 8 Large X Rings, I'll have to order some Medium and Small X Rings for the rigs I want to make!

Wait. Wait.
You forgot about 14 x rings? And not small ones, the big two sizes?

I don't know whether to chastize you for ridiculousness, or congratulate you for the gift your past self has given you.

I have the Beast, Large, & Medium Black X Rings, and 9 Medium & Small Silver Rings, and I just bought the Antal Blue Large & Small Rings. Then there's a box of different sizes of X Rings in the basement that I need to get out so I can do a complete count All of the Rings that I have now. I'm still waiting for the 3/4" & 5/8" T Rex, I have a lot of 1/2" Tenex Tec, & All sorts of Stable Braid in several rigging bags somewhere in the same location! I can always lay them out for pics if you'd like!

I just did a forum check and I can't seem to find it anywhere! I have been thinking about the safebloc but I'm not sure what I would need it for.
Safeblocs are nice for climber controlled friction. The Favio ring was here in it's own thread somewhere. Linked right to youtube.

I found a video of the rings and TreeStuff/SherillTree both show 4 sizes: small, medium, large, & Beast! But in the video it shows how big Fiori's Ring is, it's just humungous! I've never seen a ring that large anywhere! Does anyone know where to get them? The Beast works great with Mr. Hoffman's rigging setup, but I couldn't imagine making that rig with 2 of Fiori's Rings! You'd have to use 1"+ rope for the main body! I don't rig anything that freaking large! But, I'd like to make one, just so I could say that I have! Any info about the rings would be greatly appreciated!

My buddy designed one on this website that you use CAD and they mill your design for you... can't remember the name of it, but I think it came out to something like $1400 for a dozen. I think. It has been a while.
I'll tag him if I can figure out his user name.
