X-rigging rings

Thanks for taking the time to post and put up the pictures David. Your videos including vertical speedline with XRR sling redirect have piqued my interest and had me start gathering some extra gear together to make it happen. Bonners TreeStuff video today on vert. speedline had me realize I should use this on aforementioned pine take down this week to control stem wood bounce on top of an exposed root system.

Frax, did you get a chance to see David’s YouTube video of testing XXR’s to destruction (and other stuff) before he took it down? While I do small and modest weights, it’s comforting to know what they could handle, in the extreme.

So much had to have gone into making that video. I remember thinking after all the hard costs to make this, after all the invested capital, I hope David never stops to count how much he is making per hour and compare it to similar time put into doing tree work.
I hope we can see a bunch of that footage again sometime, there is still a lot I could learn from it.

David would you consider the idea of letting a trusted ‘videophile’ work some of that up for you to your specs.? Not that this would necessarily be a fit for you but, I mentioned to another guy who puts a lot of effort into videos for the forum that I didn’t think it would hurt some of us who are gaining a lot from them and using them to improve our cash flow to kick in some money to support the cause on a volunteer basis. Ok, maybe your not the best choice for first tree person to make use of this idea -- you’re already a magnet for poop storms.

Driver I am always liking your pics....get some sleep sucka...maybe I should too.....

I used one on a double fishermans in some 1/2" (?) line... It worked fine but wasnt near as clean as a splice. The other thing I didnt like was the way the knot cinched down, I had to cut it off with a razorblade and it pressed against the sidewalls of the XRR.

I am not using any with knots anymore but it is doable.

NOW I'm ready to buy. I am assuming that a combo of the XL ring and the small ring will create the bend radius needed for a retrievable rigging point without the use of a block? Anybody know if Xman is looking into a huge teardrop style? Also, could you make a carabiner through this process? It seems like it would be tough enough to take some of the weight off of the hitch hiker... Man that would be slick! A HH made using this anodizing process... Just a thought...or several

I always come here first to see what is new about uses of XRR’s and like your analysis Tom. Thanks for taking the time to make well thought out videos.

Surprised not to see a bunch of new ideas up yet. I keep thinking of an adjustable XRR terminal rigging point with three rings. Beast on one end and two large rings on the other? Or Beast, large and another Beast? I love remote retrievable.

It's busy season!

Gotta keep killing and saving trees and not play on the buzz yet.

XRR sales haven't made me a single dime yet anyway, gotta keep doing the tree work.

I want one or more of the “new adjustables” as well as a hand full more of the older XRRs. Can’t I put two large XRR Loopies on the “new adjustable” and have a single XRR to work big stem trees and open spans of trunk with no crotches as well as the odd smaller crotch?

And yeah, make some money. I never wanted you to loose $200 an hour answering my questions. But, when the mood strikes.......

Here is the first glimpse of a mechanical advantage gizmo I whipped up using 3 of the Mini (14/10) XRRs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uOf08BTiaA

It is neat, hen you run out of 8:1 travel you can keep pulling at 4:1. Similarly if the 4:1 leg runs out of travel you can continue to pull with the 2:1.

I am going to rebuild it with spliced connections and longer cordage.
