Wraptor

[ QUOTE ]
I love a good 60 foot ascent and I can assure im not tired once I get to the top.But if I had climbs higher than that multiple times a day my tune might change(maybe for like Red wood canopy research).I guess I like the challenge of climbing with my own pure skill. The fact that I can get it done just as fast on my own .

While I would agree with some of your post I would argue that you are very wrong with this statement. Also I'd love to see you or anyone else make a powered ascender anywhere close to the wraptors equal for $400.

What makes the atlas worth $15 grand? I can make one out of an ATV winch and a gel-cell for $200. The actual parts costs of most products is far less than what we pay, as is the cost to provide our services to our clients. It's in the overhead to produce the product, the research, the product liability insurance, patent costs, etc. etc. etc.

Really, if you're content to keep on like you are, it's all good. I just don't see how someone wouldn't want one; it's like spending $50k on a chipper vs. just stacking it on a $500 trailer. Most of us have chippers, I'd bet, just the same.

FYI, the parts costs of the Wraptor are a whole lot more than $400.

Like any other tool in this trade; you'll either keep up with the technology, or watch the competition pass by you.

Then you should have a clue of what you're talking about too. Why do you think it would take longer to hook up the wraptor then to hook up for a footlock? I get your point though you're a much better climber and arborist then me. Good for you. Live long and prosper eh.

Yes, actually... it had to be break tested (more than one unit, I'm sure) to secure product liability insurance.

The powerhead alone is more than $500; add in the cost of custom machining unique components, etc. etc. etc. If you don't "get it", you don't "get it". After all, you'll spend $30 on a carabiner that's made of only fifteen cents worth of aluminum, doncha?

What's in a GRCS that makes it worth $2500? A two dollar piece of steel, a $20 strap, and a winch which cost the manufacturer about $45 to make.

I know the profit margin on the GRCS is way slim as well, I chalk it up to product liability, I hope the guy does well on them but I'm sure he's not getting rich.

If you contact the owner/seller you'll find all the info you need.

Look I wasn't trying to be rude man but $2500 bones to me seems cheap for a ride up. If it doesn't seem cheap then maybe other's markets are much tighter than mine. I'm not a engineer or an inventor so I know I would never make something like that myself that I would feel comfortable trusting my life to. I for one feel better that it's been invented, developed, and brought to market by a working arborist rather then some giant nameless corporation. Remember the ring fiasco recently? I'd rather deal with an individual anyday.

Peace crazy Jim.

I never said that bro you did.My point was I think I could tie a prussik on a doubled line and footlock while you are tieing your srt anchor to the tree. But hey I could be wrong My apology I really try not to get in these goofy pride battles.John Henry died like a man.

I hear what you're saying. I'm not down with whipping 'em out either.

As I said before no offense was meant.
