Wraptor

I think the Atlas is like, over $15,000 though.

The Wraptor is a much more practical tool and it's built around tree climbing rather than breaching and assault.

Think about those after lunch climbs straight up the rope...

$15k, plus over a grand for an extra battery is what I was quoted. For that kind of money, I'd strap an ATV winch and battery on first.

Ingenious product development. At 59, the joints are wearing out, so it's nice to know I can get up there for another decade or three without crippling myself.

Bah I brought this thing up before. The Atlas does cost more but it's 3 times as fast and green freindly. In afew more years it'll cost less.

Will we have electric chainsaws then too? Will the trucks and chippers share the same engines as a Honda Prius?

Not more green friendly than a tablespoon of fuel for a 150' ascent.

One never knows youngin one never knows. After 2 decades doing this I've seen way more changes than I ever thought I would. How about the lift trucks that work all day on batteries rather then the truck rpm at 1500????????????

That crap will all happen, probably sooner than we expect. But it won't be cheap and batteries aren't remotely green when you have to dispose of'em.

The fuel required to create the electricity to recharge the atlas in a signifigantly more than burning it in the machine to make the ascent energy directly.

(I could point out that CFL's are an environmental farce for the same reason, when you add up the energy required to product over 300 individual components contained in one... but that's a derail for another thread.)

The Atlas isn't 6 times faster than the Wraptor... and the price hasn't come down since it was created. I think they're trying to recoup their investment off of a few sales.

The Wraptor is nice. Nothing wrong with it at all.

The Atlas deal-e-o does have the capability to ascend and descend. But the Atlas will be affordable in about 10 years.

The Wraptor will be affordable now.

No; it goes away from you. Keep in mind you're ascending, too; what little smoke there is is going away AND down from you. I probably inhale more exhaust from my chainsaws.... as if you couldn't tell. ;)

Yes it was me out in Cali in June. Saw you in Baltimore also.

No I haven't given up on the spider lift, just waiting for a good used unit to come available.

JP I'm not convinced that the Wraptor is what makes you gain more weight. I believe it may also be the additional beer I drink when I get home so much earlier because the wraptor is so efficeint in the field.

The price is right. It is what it is. I can't think of anything that I've invested in that has convinced me so soon that I made the right decision. Worth its weight in gold.

how noisy?

exhaust?
I suppose that with a little practice, you could just hold your breathe, like flush stumping around loose dirt.

What are the wear parts? What seems to be the weakest link?
How long have they been in production, for the bugs to be worked out? Any high-hours testing to see longevity?

I don't know if the Wraptor manufacturer is following this, or any threads, so if any one knows great. Otherwise, I'll just have to contact the mfr if the time comes to think about buying.

Seems like an evolution in the industry that will help to expand peoples longevity in the industry. Sort of like a motorized/ mechanized wheelbarrow or mini-skid to extend your body.
