Wraptor

[ QUOTE ]
how noisy?

exhaust?
I suppose that with a little practice, you could just hold your breathe, like flush stumping around loose dirt.

What are the wear parts? What seems to be the weakest link?
How long have they been in production, for the bugs to be worked out? Any high-hours testing to see longevity?

I don't know if the Wraptor manufacturer is following this, or any threads, so if any one knows great. Otherwise, I'll just have to contact the mfr if the time comes to think about buying.

Seems like an evolution in the industry that will help to expand peoples longevity in the industry. Sort of like a motorized/ mechanized wheelbarrow or mini-skid to extend your body.

Noise... it's quieter than a chainsaw, but you're supposed to wear hearing protection for powered equipment, anyhow.

Exhaust... already answered.

Not really any wear parts to speak of. As for longevity, the first one sold is still in daily use, and from all accounts is just as good as it was new. There's also been several demo's on them, where they got the pizz run out of them and didn't fail. There are no bugs; there's been a lot of input to the manufacturer (owned by a working tree climber, FWIW), and I can't see a way to improve on it. It's like a Glock (of which I'm also a fan.) You really have to try one, man! I know Guy was impressed with the one he was able to demo, as well.

atlas 6 times as fast

I didn't say 6 times as fast I said 3 times, and the truth is yes it is 3 times as fast. Sorry to hurt your feeling but the facts are there. Ever use an Atlas????? Or'd ya just look into buying one??? Guess ya wanted to buy one cause you know deep down it is the best thing on the market.

Same amount of noise as a Tanaka gas drill. We used one at a TCC to get climbers into the work climb tree. In terms of noise, it was much better than having a bucket truck there idling the whole time.

One of the reasons we're hot on this is we know the inventor and have followed the development. And even though we aren't 100% objective, we aren't exaggerating either.

I think I will stick to foot-locking and manual ascenders for now, maybe in a few years I will need one of these. It seems to me that these kind of devices could put people in places that don't have any business being there. They a demo'ed a Wraptor at the KYTCC and it did look like a well made device. I just don't see myself using one enough to be worth the investment. For me the noise is an issue. On big removals or prunes I take my time on the way up to inspect the tree and make a work plan.

Seriously?

I think bucket truck's win that award.

The Wraptor has a throttle, it let's you look around all you want on the way up by simply letting go of it.

The price some ask...I thought about that too when I bought my GRCS. DAMN $2500 for that thing! I used one, one time and had to have it. I don't use it everyday, or once a week. Maybe once a month, I can't recall right now the last time I used it.....oh.....actually I dragged my mini across the ground when it was stuck in a swamp. The moral is, it's the biggest labor and time saver when I do use it, it's worth the $2500, and can afford to sit when I don't need it.

On the other hand the Wraptor gets used every week.

The speed is just right for ascending trees, not so fast that you have to duck and cover every half second for a branch, but fast enough in the time you do encounter one, you can gently push yourself off and your already above it.

Like blink and Erik have mentioned, we are passionate about this product as the inventor is one of us. We've all met and spent time with Paul, hell we've shared a hotel room with him. and he is a stand up guy.

I'm always looking for ways to stay young, or keep my body in it's current state (was a gymnast for 8 yrs so I deal with my share of aches and pains every day), and the Wraptor is helping me do so. Jobs are faster, less fatiguing, and I am happier.

I only say all this too, because I know there aren't many guys from Connecticut on here. It's my little secret, let them all get worn out.

Like some have said, "I'll stick to foot locking, etc". God bless ya!

You know, I don't want to poison the thread, so I retract my uncalled for comeback at ya H.

I don't want to bring myself down to your maturity level, that of a 13 year old.

WTF????? Now I know a douchebag like yourself aint'a calling me a politically incorrect word like that. Coming from the GypoHouse and calling others name is just a joke. I seen more hacks on the house than I've seen on youtube.

You're the hack, poster that is.

I watched this thread and figured I would stay out of it but I cant resist.Im sure its a great device and I would probably buy one if we had larger trees because it would make my employees faster and I would make more money.Unless of course it was dropped or neglected by my guys.Honestly it really seems overpriced considering what it consist of.Honestly what does one cost to make a few hundred dollars max(over 4 and I would be shocked). Now im getting close to forty and i feel in great shape and I partly attribute that to my occupation.Ive never looked at ascending a tree as bad for my health or longevity. In fact I look at it as just the opposite-like working out it really helps keep me fit and youthful.I love a good 60 foot ascent and I can assure im not tired once I get to the top.But if I had climbs higher than that multiple times a day my tune might change(maybe for like Red wood canopy research).I guess I like the challenge of climbing with my own pure skill. The fact that I can get it done just as fast on my own.Fatigue is not actually a bad thing either I chase it when I ride my bike, run, lift weights, box, and climb-sometimes when we push ourselves it just makes us stronger the next time -thats kinda how we are designed. As far as wearing out maybe look more into chainsaw, handsaw and polesaw use and poor lifting techniques and just dudes not taken care of there bodies.Besides I really cant stand breathing any more fumes than I have too.Really I try to just do pruning these days so I really limit my chainsaw use just not a big fan of breathing in something that says on the label that it is cancer causing(actually its on all 2 cycle power equipment when you buy it).Maybe if we are really concerned with our health we might look into solutions for that praticular problem that seems to be ignored in this industry. But such is life we all jump on some bandwagon whle letting others pass.Maybe Im being the devils advocate a little cause I know I would buy one if we could use it-i just wouldnt use it except if I was really lazy that day.For the record I do like to intentionally leave the mini skid at the shop every once in a while just to get the guys and myself a little exercise.Ive noticed they are starting to get fat and spoiled and it affects there performance in other aspects of the job.like moving fast in the tree.Weird i can get them all the tools in the world to make there job easier and faster and make me more money. But I honestly believe with less hardwork i just may be shortening there lives.
