Hey Trachy, welcome to the buzz! When i lived in california the trchycarpus weren't over 20 feet but the washingtonia robusta in riverside, ca (near old orange groves) were 80- 90 feet, some even taller 30 m. (I've realy got to dig out the old photos) Palms with thick cortex (washingtonia, pheonix, etc.) can be spiked with little or no effect on health or wounding. But species with thin cortex (arecastrum, archontopheonix, etc.) are severely wounded by spikes as their vascular bundles are not protected by cortex! You palm climbers have all seen queens or cocos with holes all the way up....not pretty! Trachy those clamping climbers look great! Can you tell me more about them?
