Cut my first hard-leaner today behind my niece's house in Virginia Beach. Silver maple, and I admit I was a bit nervous about it. Made a slight face cut (had to cut through a burl on the way) less than 1/5th the diameter, made a horizontal plunge cut, then cut the trigger. The other leaner seen in the first photo will remain. It makes a turn almost straight up outside the photo frame. Looking at the root flare, it seems this tree was partially blown over years ago, but hung on. It's not one of my better hinges, but I was more concerned about a barber chair than making a clean hinge.
