Work Photos

I'm not sure I fully understand ; are you inferring that the previous large wounds led to the internal decay that caused this stem to fail?

Do you have any photos of the rest of the wood below the failure? Did the decay travel up, down or both ways through the stem ?
Have a few more pics. Trunk is sound but decay in the canopy led to this and previous branch failures. Needs a lot of end weight reductions

Got into some amazing coffee this morning and ran around the hood like a spider monkey on crack for a about 4 hours. A little madrone removal over a wood fired hot-tub early on. Then fired up the skidder and reorganized the landing, set up the mill, and rolled a real nice 34'-36" diameter 20 footer. The mill has been inactive for a few months, so I'm really looking forward to getting back to it. Finished up setting some lines for some upcoming jobs. Hung up throw balls and 400 ft of throw-line in a giant knot. Fuck! My buzz is beginning to recede and I don't feel so well.

That is hot!

Run off the mill day yesterday. Dead doug-fir, then this dead Grand-fir.
Wraptored the first, shoulda Wraptored the second, but climbed it from the bottom up.

My shoulder is sore.

Rico, been doing shoulder band exercises you recommended, and others for PT.IMG_20180926_174336087.webp

Just finished this up

Great pics! I’ve done a lot of work on the west side of Lake Tahoe. Still some big beautiful wood on that side of the lake.

I believe my daily face-pulls and pull-aparts have been integral to my shoulder health. Do some research on self manipulation of the bicep tendon. The bicep tendon runs through a small channel at the front of the shoulder, and it can sometimes jump out of the groove. I can feel when it is out, and resetting it has been extremely helpful.

Sweet tip for the self manipulation of the biceps tendon. Have been suffering some type of shoulder/elbow pain for the past year or so and I will definitely add this to the foam rolling and muscle flossing routine which I have also found to be very helpful.

Thanks for always proving great and entertaining info(y)

I got into a real nice log (mild birds-eye), and got some milling done today. Its been a few months, and I sure do miss it. This log is from the tree I did in the "Down in the Draw" vid did last year. I always sit with the Redwoods that I remove, and take some time to honor them, and give thanks for all that they give. This tree will provide my wife with a beautiful home, and something amazing to pass on to future generations.

I can almost smell the wood. Keep up the good work Rico!

Worked on the ground yesterday while the boss went up in a lift to do the trees. Thought to check my steps when I got home because my phone automatically tracks them (iPhone). Didn’t realize I walked so much lol!

I spent a lot of time living in northern New Mexico. Lived way off the grid in a Yurt outside Taos up near Eagles Nest. I fucking love Taos! A truly amazing place and amazing people. I worked for a local tree service, and work a little with the Earth-ship crew.
Lived in Abiquiú in a very old adobe, and was building strawbale and cobb houses with a local outfit.
Also lived down in Glorietta near Pecos. 45 minutes of the pavement on a rough dirt road. Was learning the straw bale craft from an amazing german, buddhist, true bohemian builder. Fucking lunatic.
When you get out in the country in northern New Mexico you are no longer in the United States. It is 3rd world. Insane poverty, drug problems, violence, and racism, but one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, and the most soulful, talented, loving people I have ever spent time with. New Mexico embraced me, and let me in. My experiences there had a profound effect of me, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart.

A view of Wheeler Peak (13,200 ft) from the Pueblo in Taos. The pueblos are considered to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities (1000 yrs) in the United States. You haven't lived until you have witnessed the Turtle Dance at sunrise on Christmas morning in 25 below zero temperatures!
