I spent a lot of time living in northern New Mexico. Lived way off the grid in a Yurt outside Taos up near Eagles Nest. I fucking love Taos! A truly amazing place and amazing people. I worked for a local tree service, and work a little with the Earth-ship crew.
Lived in Abiquiú in a very old adobe, and was building strawbale and cobb houses with a local outfit.
Also lived down in Glorietta near Pecos. 45 minutes of the pavement on a rough dirt road. Was learning the straw bale craft from an amazing german, buddhist, true bohemian builder. Fucking lunatic.
When you get out in the country in northern New Mexico you are no longer in the United States. It is 3rd world. Insane poverty, drug problems, violence, and racism, but one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, and the most soulful, talented, loving people I have ever spent time with. New Mexico embraced me, and let me in. My experiences there had a profound effect of me, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart.

A view of Wheeler Peak (13,200 ft) from the Pueblo in Taos. The pueblos are considered to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities (1000 yrs) in the United States. You haven't lived until you have witnessed the Turtle Dance at sunrise on Christmas morning in 25 below zero temperatures!
