wood chip boxes to aluminum or steal.

I'm no expert at anything, but I am a firm believer of documenting experiences and sharing knowledge. I do a lot of internet research on all kinds of subjects and have always found old forum posts to be some of the most helpful, so I'm just trying to contribute to that record
Well said!

Is that a spine board?

Are you asking about the orange things? They are Maxtrax recovery boards, used for getting out of mud/sand if you get stuck. I get off-road a lot and it's easy to get into soft ground. I've also used them to get the truck/chipper over gaps/holes, or just over small wet/soft spots and not leave huge ruts.

(obviously not my photo, just an example of how they can be used)

so I finally decided to give my truck a metal top. and it works. I went to home depot and spent 250 cdn dollars. bought paint to re paint the box black, then added roofing membrane to seal up the seams. I had used a bit of cocking to seal up other seams to make sure everything is waterproof. I later used flashing around all corners of the box then screwed it down. Then added 8 foot metal roofing sheets on the top and screwed it down with metal roofing screws with the rubber gasket. I had to seal up the holes on the sides with the foam closure pieces they sell you. I used 2 pieces for each sheet. My box is 8 feet x 8.5 feet in length. 3 sheets did it and then I added a bit of flashing to cover up the last piece to make sure the rain never touches the back wood overhang. Painted everything black in color used a rust proof paint. I have seen others who have done this before but I think mine came out way better. the rain just misses the sides when it rains. it works amazing and keeps the rain off, no more tarp. but I might add a tarp in the winter when it sits for 2-4 weeks. hopefully the photos can show you how I did it, and last photo shows the rain beading off.

Nice work, @pacifichedge..

Since someone asked about it earlier based on my photos, my MaxxTraxx got me out of a snowy ditch a month ago.... steep-ish slippery hill, mud covered in melting snow.

Trick any arborist may want to know. If you have rope and you have a couple of sticks in sight, you can probably get out of "stuck".

I saw a youtube video where a guy stuck in mud lashed a 2x4 perpendicular across his tire, one on both rear wheels.

The tire would then slip on the mud as it turned all the way around until it got to 2x4 and then "walk, one step" out of the mud. Rinse repeat until on solid ground.
