hey Norm keep in mind some rules where meant to be broken. If we didn't we'd still be climbing 3 strand and spiking everthing we do. Sometimes Safty trainers cry too much.

heck guy even showed his splice held better than the Manufactures. What more do you want? Want me to cut my splice off and mail it to you so you can study it under your scope?

You seem to be going to great lengths to defend yourself by putting others down. Send it to Samson and see what they think.

The super-scientific and reproducible test performed by this guy could have just as easily ended many other ways.

Guys, please keep in mind what ANSI Z133.1-2006 states;

8.1.12 "Splicing SHALL be done in accordance with cordage manufacturers' recommendations."

I totally agree with Norm. There's a reason a manufacturer has specific instructions for their splices. Its because they know the best way to splice their cordage.

Kind of off topic but.. How long is a fid length when measureing. I cant remember and I am getting ready to do a doublebraid this week.

Just so we've got this straight ed, it was a 175 dollar splicing booze fest.

Mark, fid lengths differ in size and go according to the diameter of rope your using. See, I did learn something at the booze fest.

New England has a fid length chart on there website. It has already come in handy after a long weekend at the booze fest. I would pay for that party again in a heart beat. It was good meeting you Mr. Familytree.

Hell yeah man. I'd do it again in a min. It was great meeting everyone out there.

As far as the splice goes, I don't know if it's strong or not, but I bet that if you tried to compete with that it probably wouldn't fly and the tech would disqualify it, or so I'm told should happen.

I'm interested to see it on a break test to see how she holds up. Norm, do you have the time to test it?

New England ropes has a great fid length chart on their website. I'm not tech savvy enough to post a link though.

Funny, I used this line months ago on a bradford pear topping post, and I got totally attacked. I learned some sweet splicing tricks at the 175 dollar booze fest, I know which way I'm going to do it from now on.---- but I can also agree that the way we learned is not the only way.

I belive I did also Noel.

Did anyone show up with a screwdriver??

By the way I'm still waiting for a pic of mr mouths splice. I do belive my splice looks very well, and I doubt any would know that it was done as such.

Either of you 3-4 or was it 5 jaws flapping!!!!

Can you post some pictures of your handy dandy super screw driver splices? Are you just going to use the ones you find on google?

[/ QUOTE ]

Seems to be lots of mouths and papers but very little backing or putting. Proofs in the putting.
