Texaco was founded with British capital and all her first drilling engineers were from the Anglo-Burmese Oil Company. Our biggest Civil War hero, Dick Dowling, who turned back an entire Union invasion force of thousands of men and three warships at Sabine Pass, with just 141 men and a bunch of worn out brass naval cannon made for the Royal Navy in the 1700's, was a British immigrant. One of our largest breeds of cattle in the state is the Bhraman, from British India, brought in by the thousands by these ranchers. They sold Texas horses the other direction by the thousands. The famous Bengal Lanchers in India were riding mostly Texas mounts. Over one forth of the British cavalry in the Boer War were riding Texas mounts and an entire group of volunteers went over from Texas to fight. Until all these 'foreign' people came to Texas, the official language there was Spanish, by the way.
