Which to choose? Compact utility tractor VS Mini Skid VS Gehl

Some real world specs for your consideration when buying a new machine. I picked up a new bobcat mt100 in May, it's handled nearly everything that the workzone would allow us to haul without specifically cutting the material down for weight.

The other day we picked a 2500lb tulip poplar log. The bobcat carried it around with no problem despite the 1000lb capacity rating. The only sign that it was heavy for the machine was a vibration going down the road.

I wouldn't recommend routinely picking up that much weight, but it's a very capable machine when you need it.

I hauled a 3k oak log with the sk800, it didn’t like it but did it. This pine’s closer to 2000 and had to work for it. Driving uphill is easier than pulling too.IMG_2225.jpeg

What you just said is exactly why I made my log donkey. IMG_0629.jpeg
I know you have used an Arb Trolly but it is so much easier on the machine with wheels. All the track standing and vibration goes away.

Thanks for posting this, I bought a 2021 MT100 new. It has been a strong and reliable machine, I always thought it was able to do more than the rated 1000lb. The vibrations and forward tip have only happened for me when moving really long logs 14+ feet with a lot of water weight. Cheers
 
My mini rides to the job on a flatbed trailer. One thing that works well on the right job is to push the trailer to the tree, load it with the mini and then tow the trailer to the chipper in big turns. Same goes for wood, trailer is the same length as the dump bed on the truck so no trimming for size is needed.

Yep, currently with a small winch forks snd bucket. I’ve got a grader blade and york rake from old gear, and got a mint bush hog last week for $100 barter. We have 8 acres of mostly field, and dirt road assoc., so planning to get a land plane for dressing the driveway and have a snow plow on it. Toys!!!!
