Which climbing line do you suggest?

Blazes camo brother, Bandit, is like PI on a diet. It's a little lighter than PI but similar in color. I think Blaze and Bandit hold up better to abrasion than other 24 strands and I use it for 2 in 1 lanyards.

I climb regularly on PI and Tachyon (lava version) and love em but nothing inspires confidence like Arbormaster BWR. The extra weight is not noticeable but the natural and false crotch (Ddrt) performance and ice tail compatibility are noticeable and IMO flawless.

-been climbing ten years on 1/2 inch lines... I bought a hank of velocity last year (to try out this new 11mm thing) and have used it two times. So small in my hands.
-why do you like 11mm so much? I love my Hi-Vee with bail out prussik or XTC with velocity split tail/

Thanks bwitherson...
Also- I do want to give props to Arbormaster BWR. I use it all day too. Samson is 15 miles away so it is practically falling out of the dumpster around here. I have all Samson lines for everything. Maybe that is why my favorite is NE Hi-Vee, it is like exotic from the 'east coast!
I trust my life to Samson

That's awesome, I love the positive feedback about the blaze.

I have to agree...I really like PI right now but once I wear it out I might think about blaze

If you are doing Ddrt hip thrusting and hand-over-hand rope work, 11mm sucks. For that style of climbing 13mm rules. Samson BRW with Ice tail works great. A rope like 11mm Velocity comes into its own when used with ascenders and mechanicals like the Rig or Unicender.

Yes on the Arbormaster. I thought it was out of fashion, but I missed it. It's my next rope. My hands can't comfortably grap that thin rope. The weight difference is no big deal if you can't get a grip on the new stuff. I'd like a thicker rope than 13mm. Any rope that would work for trees like that, without going too heavy?

I've been using velocity for the last year or so and it is a great rope. It can get painful if you're doing a lot of gripping and body thrusting throughout your climb.

Overall, I'd have to say my favorite line I've used is blaze (have used velocity, PI, tachyon, fly, bluestreak); I'll be switching back after this line is ready to be retired.

Hey John, why do you favor blaze over velocity? Just wondering since I've never tried blaze, but like velocity.

Blaze isn't quite as small in diameter as velocity but not as big as PI. It also has very little stretch like velocity, is lightweight, and does well in wet conditions which we get a lot of in certain areas here. And it stands out really well in the canopy and on the ground for groundworkers, which the green PI seems to blend in with the darker color. This is all just my own personal opinion, though.

I like New England Rope's Lava. It is small enough to run through all of my ascenders and desenders, and large enough to grip comfortably with my hand. It works well with a blake's hitch and a VT, I prefer the 10mm beeline because it gives me a little more knot to grip when descending.
