What is this rope from K&R Supply?

My very sweet Mom wanted to buy me some tree gear for X-mas this year, so I thought to my self, this is a great chance to get a static line. I sent her this link which she is sure she ordered directly from, which I believe, because she shops a lot and is good at it.

Now check out the attachment and see what I actually got. I have no idea what this rope is. It doesn't look like any of the static lines on the Knot and Rope website nor does it look like any of the static lines on Sterling's website.

I will not climb on a rope which I can't identify. If this rope is in fact a Sterling static line I'll use it. If it's something else I'll be really annoyed. Either way it's not what was ordered and that stinks.

Sooooo what is it?

Static lines are core dependent kernmantles, sterling HTP is a static line. The strength is in the core and the cover is to protect the core from damage caused by ascenders and stuff.

Jeff, do you have a link or something to verify what you're saying? Either way unless I can confirm that this is HTP it's going back. My receipt says HTP, and that's what I want.

I know they'll take care of it. That's why I buy rope from them now.

I'm pretty sure they're all Sterling 10mm HTP. It comes in several colors including Snakebite from Sherrill.

I've bought the yellow/red and snakebite. The second link also includes KMIII which is New England's version.

I really like mine for highlines and long ascents but I'll get a brighter color next time.

OH yeah, if you check the tech details from the third site it goes to a Sterling pdf. I'm pretty certain John wouldn't sell a knock off without making that clear in the specs, much less substituting Sterling specs for a knock-off rope.

What color combo do you have?

I don't get what you mean when you say "they're all sterling htp"

the color combo is in the attachment in my first post.

I'm in no way suggesting that Knot and Rope Supply tried to dupe me. I'm only trying to find out if the rope I posted a pic of is Sterling HTP. If it is everything is fine, if it isn't I have to send mine back. I don't care about the colors that much, I'll go with it if it's HTP. Besides all that it's fun to ID rope.

Hey, it's me.

Yea that looks like the static rope from All Gear.

It's not bad stuff, but not exactly in the same league as KMIII or HTP.

In any case, I think what might of happened here was that the price point on that one might of been appealing to the buyer, who might of thought "hey, rope is rope" and figured it is all equal, just different prices.

Anyway, if that isn't what you wanted just let me know and I will have whatever you want sent out ASAP from santas rope workshop.

Thanks bro!

Thanks. I'll call tomorrow and drop it in the mail. I don't think it was a mistake on our end though, the receipt says HTP.

Thanks for posting this, I have a small coil of the same (yellow/blue) rope and was wondering the same. Would anyone advise against using this as a prussik loop/lanyard adjuster?

If it's a kernmantle construction static rope it would be lousy for a hitch, wouldn't be supple enough for the hitch to hold.

Yeah it's kinda just what you don't want for a hitch. I made a 12' lanyard out of it and used AG Tech Cord for the adjuster. One of my favorite canopy lanyards of all time. I think it would be ideal for a really long lanyard.

Even though it's knotted instead of spliced I liked it a lot until I nicked the cover it kinda bad a few weeks ago.

I have some 7/16's" 'Tower Line' from All Gear. (see attachment)
The number of tracers are different than your attached foto, although the same color. I don't think it's an All Gear product.

It's a bit of a mystery! Maybe when John gets the rope back he'll tell us what it is. I have to say that Knot and Rope supply is awesome to deal with. I spoke to John a little while ago and he is sending out the right rope no questions asked, great guy to deal with.

The rope about which this thread was started, is AllGear Static Line. It is yellow with blue tracer, and is a 7/16 inch line.

The rope in the above picture in the lanyard is the Allgear Kevlar Prussik Cord.

Im not familiar with tower line Norm, as we dont stock it, I believe the Static Line and the Tower Line are 2 separate products, but Im just not certain on that. I will speak with John when he gets back from vacation next week, and see if we cant figure out the specifics of these two ropes.

The verdict is in. Tower rope and the Static rope are the same product, just different colors.

I spoke with Tom Daly at Allgear today and confirmed that with him. He said the static rope is the exact same thing as the tower line, just diff colors. Tom said that they are making the tower line in yellow/blue, and a red/something (i forgot the second color).

So the red one pictured on allgears site is the same thing as the yellow, and all the specs are true for both.
