what did u have 4lunch 2day?

So whats the bad part about PB&J? High protein, awesome fats, good fiber, GREAT complex carbs, and a little sugar in there too. its like a big clif bar!

Where you out of RopeBurn, I see Boston....where? What co.?

Thanks for your post MasterBlaster thats terrific yeah.

So thats one vote I have for "No thanks I'd rather remain an ignorant @ss"

Anyone else want to seriously talk about diet?

Or would you prefer to listen to MB's thoughts on the subject?

I don't eat lunch most of the time. I'm usually home by then anyway, and I like to take a nap.

I fuel up in the morning, and keep simple snacks in my truck if I get a rumble in the gut.

Ropeburn, you need to work on your communication skills a bit, then maybe you won't appear to be such an a$s. ;)

Feel free to ask me for advice!

(But do it nicely lest you be ignored!)

OK..the problem with good 'ol PB+J. Its loaded with high-fructose corn syrup - the absolute worst kind of cheap energy. Not only will it leave you in the dump an hour into a climb, its bad for your teeth.

For those who don't know... the ingredients on any food are listed in order of their amounts.

Peanut Butter - (forgive my attack on an american classic)

First two ingredients, Roasted Peanuts ad sugar. (Jif PB)

It's highin fat - 16g in 2 tbsp 3g of sat fat

It does have high protein - which is good... there are better ways to get protein without all the cheap sugar.

Jelly - (I like Welches Jam too... but its not exactly health food)

Firt ingredients - Concord grapes, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup.

1 tbsp of grape jam contains 13g of carbs... 13 grams of sugar - its like umm candy.

Wonder Bread - (I assume no one here has PB+J on 12 grain whole wheat bread)

Ok who here knows the basic ingredients for making bread?
Flour - Water - Sugar - Yeast - maybe a pinch of salt..

The enriched wheat flour found in these cheap breads may help to explain our obesity level inthis country. The bleached white flour used is vertually indigestable to the human body. Its nasty.. virtually all white breads common to us blue collar folks are the same.

Wonder Bread - enriched wheat flour - water, high fructose corn syrup or sugar, yeast and then a huge list of chemical additives that atfirst glance look like the ingredients to make a bomb.

2 slices 90 calories 10 calories from fat 1g sat fat (not terrible)but listen to this 18g of otal carbs- no doubt from the notorious high fructose corn syrup

High Fructose Corn Syrup is the DEVIL!!!!

The higher level of sugar you eat, the more insulin your body creates. Insulin is our bodies key element in the breaking down of sugars. For most of us.. producing it is not a problem. It is proven however that high intake of sugary foods leads to Diabetes. Theres one problem with producing higher Insulin; It inhibits the bodies ability to process fats. If you understand some of the principles of the Atkins diet you already know this. (Not that I believe Atkins is the way to go mind you)

BostonBull - You seem like a decent fellow, unfortunately I won't give my employers info out...past or present...as most are well known and I don't need any strangers stalking me.

I love PB+J... and it may have been alright to fuel your body on when you were 6 yrs old, and the biggest task of the day was sand-box time but adults, and even more specifically, adults engaging in a physically demanding job who are responsible for their guys, their customers, and themselves, simply need adult food. Good nutritional food with vitamins, solid proteins, 0 trans fat, low and natural sugars. I'll Post a decent recipe for a power salad I enjoy regularly. (and it tastes great and has good nutritional value)

Sorry I'm an @ss - but you gotta stick with what you are best at I guess =p

I was thinking ekka too!

High Fructose corn syrup as far as I know is indeed the devil so I never eat foods with it...there are plenty of brands of PB out there that contain none of it.

Ropeburn,

Sorry, but what is your freakin' deal, anyways? Your post comes out of nowhere and is bizarre in so many ways.

I've been a lurker for a long time on this forum, reading all of the posts of so many knowledgeable folks here (YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!) and you barge on here with stuff like ('I assume no one here has PB+J on 12 grain bread') and crap like that!

For a subject that obviously has a great deal to do with personal taste and satisfaction (and eating patterns, etc., etc.,) you sure are self-righteous!

I personally have a peanut butter in my cabinet that has no added sugar, rich in Omegas, and sometimes I do bring a PB+J to work on whole grain bread with a little bit of jam that my mom made. (and I am a climber, ropeburn, just like you!!) I am always thinking about what is best to feed myself and my husband, and as far as a sandwich goes, there is nothing wrong with a PB+J!

Maybe you should spend some time reading some posts from people who are clearly more world wise than you and put a little more energy into being humble!

For the record, I do think it is an extremely valid point, that nutrition is vital to our work, but come on!!!

Sounded to me like YOU missed out on your sand-box time!

(But unlike you, I could be wrong!!!)

Well enlighten us and let us know what you eat on a daily basis. its hard to mix things up and not having all the bad things in it for you. in fact i eat my pb&j on 12 grain wheat bread. I've been slowly switching over to less complex sugars for my heart even though im only 23. I'm trying and it a slow process so its not a huge shock to you. switching your eating habits is worse than quiting smoking which i did the 1st of January. 24 days and counting.

Absolutely. Ropeburn: you are right with the need to take care of our selves with good foods to be able to work properly. But, your approach was without tact.

You should have taken a different "route".

Ha! I crack myself up. "Route." Get it?!

And for the record... I had lasagna, an apple, and a Emergen-C packet in my water today.

Not enough for me today. I was in a hurry this morning.

In the summer, I usually will have 2-3 items of fruit. Some kind of energy bar. A healthy sized sandwich (or two). And a couple of Emergen-C drinks with over 1 gallon of water (through out the day). I don't sit and eat all that at once, I pace it out. It seems to keep my stomach content and the foods are nutritionally dense to give me consistent energy.

rb you may appriciate that i ate about 17 pieces of sushi for lunch and some soymilk and i keep a small bottle of apple cider vinager in my lunchbox that i like to sip on through-out the day
