what are your trim specs?

I am doing some storm work this week for a small town light plant. they want us to fully prune/trim/remove every storm damaged span to their usual spec. 10' above and to the side, ALL growth underneath. doesnt matter the size/condition/species if its within 10' its toast. same underneath.

this is a 4800 delta system, into 13,800 WYE

good evening bull. those deltas are easy to trip. i trimmed on lake erie today and it was friggin cold. the wind was brutal. im goona wear so many layers tomorrow that i prob wont be able to bend over. almost 7 hrs from home though and i hate short paychecks. we re helping out on a job that has fallen ridiculously behind.. they are the worst kind. the jokers did all the gravy and left the climbing behind. now its january and below zero and we re doing their climbing. its days like today i wish i would have finished college{and did well}
take care.

10 ON THE SIDES 15ISH ON THE HANG TO A 45. IF ITS FLAT OR POINTING DOWN ON THE HANG ITS MORE LIKE 20. FOR BOTH 4.8KV DELTA AND 13.2KV WYE.

All my work is from a climbing perspective. adamj seems about right. That template seems bang on. Species and the utility district may play with that, location as well. I personaly deadwood more often than not. All deadwooding up here is limited to proximity to the line(s).

60' from the center of the tower, Ground to sky 230kV Min separation 7'11"

On the little stuff, the general rule is no limb to be within 3ft of any line at the end of trimming cycle (2 or 3 year cycles). So we hit what we need to depending on type.

22kV - min distance 3m from the wire throughout the cycle, which means we need to trim back to about five mtr every fifth year. 240V - min distance 1m throughout the cycle, or 2m when pruning. Stems may be closer but not in contact with the line. These spec´s are national standard in Norway and the utilities are regularely controlled by a governmental body if their standard on the poles and lines meet the regulations, this includes vegetation management. If not they are fined.
