Beech is my all-time favorite tree genus/species, difficult to find healthy ones in the northeast, beech-bark disease has affected most that are in contiguous woods, there are a few isolated patches of woods with beauties but very uncommon.

I like the way you are using the hook to advance, it really comes in handy that way. Also like your custom RADS ascender, should be a product ;-) Your hook work is getting very smooth, practice pays off!

How is the stitched eye doing? I recently sent a few out to be broken. This will be the first test of my "2nd generation" method of sewing compared to the first round of testing of an earlier style of stitching, which tested well. One that will be broken is an eye I sewed for my Hook in 10mm Reep Schnur, should be interesting. I believe the one you have is stupidly bomber, I used a heavier thread than I usually use for 10mm cordage, my fingers were sore for a few days after I made it ;-)

Really tough to estimate age by girth alone, you have to look at growth rates from a site, if you see one that went over and was cut up on the ground you can count rings and make some estimates from there.

For the 10mm EZ-Bend eye I used waxed C-Lon Tex 400 (nylon), normally I use a lighter weigh thread for 10mm, it gets to hard to finish the last sewing pass with heavier threads in 10mm.

Forgot to mention, have been enjoying seeing the turkey vultures floating around behind you, cool to watch from a tree!
