Video: a bid gone bad, cop and all

Calm down eric, your going to blow a fuse matey. nobody's snapping at your ankles, but it's inevitable that not everyone will agree with what your doing. And calling someone a wuss or sissy does'nt fit in with the profesional discourse at this site.

Jason, your wrong period. you HAVE to be perfect before you start picking on the shortcomings of others. Ever heard of the pot calling the kettle black? or as the aussie's would say, the armpit calling the arsehole hairy?

Geez, and I thought I was stretching the line ... /forum/images/graemlins/applaudit.gif /forum/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif Good on you Ed.

I have three on my ignore list now.

Cityslicker
Stevefullman
Jerseycow

And it's working, I'm getting better, perhaps a few more days I'll be back to normal.

But I have another day of bidding today, and I've just loaded in a 60min tape ... lighting looks good with a sunny day, wind is calm so no microphone distortions, plenty of geographical spread, temperature isn't too hot ... now the last one is really important coz if it's too hot I put the windows up and aircon on ... but when it's like this I have the windows down ... and I can hear a chainsaw or chipper from miles away. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif And like a fly to [use a better word] I'll be there, and statistically with 80% being unqualified and Saturday being a weekend I would predict 9 out of 10 chance of a good bust. Perhaps a couple of backyard cowboys getting weekend cashies in ... it's almost like going fishing eh?

I haven't been in the bussiness long of climbing but I have had A chainsaw in my hand more than I would like to admit. We all do these things, I have hung upsidedown and made a cut one handed, I have cut with out my face sheild down(It would intefere with my smoking). I have cut above my head(on crane jobs it stops you from getting popped in the mouth).

I posted pics awhile back of me doing some ash removals, I got all sorts of critism even on the height I was at. Now I look at pictures of you guys in 200ft trees whys would I lie about 90ft. Every situation and comfort level is different.

Some times you need our other hand to hold something out of your way while you cut, sometimes there is to much snow on your face sheild to see through it, and sometimes you get the feeling like that saw is gonna kick back and cut your throat when it gets pinched. And sometimes there is absolutly no safe way of doing it just a way to get it done.

Ekka
Your lack of professionalism does not surprise me at all. Everybody has the right to cry over their spilled milk. It just seems that you lost your load all at once. My advice to you, spend as much time improving yourself as you do in putting down other people and you might just find that your business dealings will run better. Treat customers and potential customers with the respect that they deserve. Try to be understanding when you see a fellow man trying to earn a living. After all we all had to start somewhere. By the way I liked the part about the IQ. I think they were referring to your neighborhood mate. I also liked the proper ppe that demonstrated in your videos. Practice what you preach mate!!!!! /forum/images/graemlins/boohoo.gif

Keep up the good work Ekka. You will always have those that hide in the shadows and throw stones.

Funny how there were no complaints about your videos until the 'confessions of a tree hacker' thread came up at the TH.

You really hit some nerves in the anything for money crowd!

Oh dear, I just got back and nothing to video, all is safe in Gotham City commissioner.

Oh, sticks and stones ... you know the story. I don't know much about any of the guys on my ignore list but I have attached a picture of what I see so they know why I dont respond.

May I also suggest that if you don't like my vids ... please return the favour. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Ekka I got a few photos of some American style PPE yesterday. This group is working for a small town near hear. No belt on the bucket operator that I could see and not a bit of PPE on all six of them.

This crew raised the canopy on about 15 trees to at least 20 ft. high. The wood was so large from the "canopy raising" that they used a knuckle boom loader to load the wood.

Check out the trunk taper. This was a really large limb that was removed. There was no crown cleaning done on any of the trees and all of the lower limbs that were removed were alive.
There were two 16ft. chipper boxes filled with the trimmings.

Why did they raise the canopy that high?

Was it hitting trucks or something?

Did they only do it on the road side?

Now, it's a bit dark but I reckon some thinning & reduction on those limbs would have been easy. Looks like heaps of places to cut to unlike that stupid gum tree on my recent video.

I just wonder what the answers are, hey, what sort of trees are they?

Oh, I just mucked around with that pic and they're in the park or something. No road around, are they peacan trees and they need to get machinery in?

These pecan and oak trees are growing around a large house on about 3 acres the city bought as an investment. It is all lawn and there was no need for any canopy raising. I imagine it's so they can grow better grass! The tree company has had their large trucks everywhere on the lawn with the tracks sinking in 3 or 4 inches.

These trees could have used a crown cleaning and at the most very minor canopy raising of branch tips. At the start of the job the canopy was already 12 to 15 ft. off the ground.

This city has several dead and dying trees over hanging the city's streets that need attention. One large tree lost half it's canopy at 20ft. you can see right throught the trunk. When it goes, and it will be soon, it's taking power lines with it and landing in the street.

Ekka, you should have your own TV show!!

Fame and fortune awaits.

Good to see you at the Buzz HS even if your motivation is only to carry on your harassment of Ekka. Nice first post.

Attached is a photo of some of your tree trimming you sent to the TH. So.......you are having trouble with Ekka?

No wonder emotions have ran so high in that thread. If I have it correct the tree on the right you had just done and the one center screen is up next.

Now that is one trimmed tree!

What was it in High Scale's post that could be construed as harrasment? I thought it was quite complimentry.

Whatever, at least Ekka can always be glad he has your support and loyalty Dan.

Hey thanks Dan.

No I have not got any problem with Ekka, I mean what I said.

Thanks for posting my picture of my great treework thats nice of you, yeah the tree on the right? myself and my friend Stu did that to that Oak tree, yeah the one on the left? yeah we gave that a good hacking, you have read the rest of my posts on the subject? So you know that It ain't my thing to do that to trees?
You know why I did it don't you?
That was done on orders of the local authority and like I said in my post if it was up to me I wouldent have done anything to that tree at all.

I suggest that you wind your neck in my brother and supp on your saucer of milk.

Carl.

A picture i$ worth a thou$and word$.

Here's a scenario...
Let's say there is a small airport in your city(no commercial airplanes) governed by the Regional Airport Authority. Because of a new noise ordinance, the planes, single engine cessna's and small jets, had to approach in a new flight pattern. Not a long glide in but more of a higher altitude approach with a steeper drop closer to the airport. The RAA complies with this but because of the height of some of the trees surrounding the airport, for safe landings (according to FAA regulations) need to be "reduced"...TOPPED. Eliminating the surounding trees would in effect(since they do baffle airplane sounds) make the noise ordinance a waste of time. Would you do TreeCO, EKka, anybody. And for grins and giggles...It pays really well

I wouldn't have a problem doing this. Making management decisions can be difficult. There are lots of considerations that need to be accounted for.

This is similar to looking at trees that have been reduced after having the tops ripped out from a storm. Many times we're faced with making the best-worst decision.

Lowering the tops of the trees for the airport may look like topping but it isn't in my book. This is much different than whacking the top off of a tree for a view or satellite dish. The safety and risk management concerns take a higher value.

I personally would not be interested in the job but not because of the type of pruning.

Managing vegetation for noise reduction at an airport is a lot different than managing vegetation where people are walking around on the ground under the trees. There are no targets under the trees at an airport runway. I believe noise reduction is a great use of trees and woody plants.

I've been to bid meetings where an airport was wanting just what you are describing done to 70 acres of trees. Not only were the trees to be reduced in height but they were also to be trimmed to have a slope that complemented the airplanes landing approach to the runway. Surveyors were also hired to make sure the tree company adhered to the specs.

I have no problem at all with such use of trees. I pulled out of the bidding due to the size of the work. I figured the least bright of the 30 or so contractors at the pre bid meeting got the job and probably went belly up while completing the work. I imagine I was the only arborist at the meeting.
