Unicender questions

I know most people on here don't use this device. I know one that does and loves it so I was looking at it a lot at the show and love the idea. I think being able to walk out the limb using the wrap is a great idea and understand the limitation of it not being self tending. However I was wondering about the limitation of resetting the rope with such a device. Can you advance your rope or do you have to hit that high crotch with your throwline? I understand that working with the single line ascent you don't have to isolate crotches and that makes it easier when setting your line higher but is there a way to advance this line higher and still be safe?

There might have been two, one in Rich H's kit and the other in mine.

Advancing SRT is sooo easy. All that I do is lanyard in at any point in my climb and detach my ascending kit. Then I set pull up the end of the access line and reset it wherever I need to.

When I plan my ascent I ALWAYS pull at least 20' of extra rope to leave on the ground. If it looks like I might do a redi during the canopy climb I'll pull out more rope. During my climb I always pay attention to my route to make sure that I have enough rope to get to the ground and not come off the end. It's rare that I tie a stopper knot in my access line. The times that I've done that it has always gotten stuck in the tree....grrrr!

The reset could be for a higher TIP or access point or it could be to take advantage of a natural redirect that is in the perfect location.

If I need a redi during my descent or canopy climb all I do is thread the downrope through the redi and hook up the Uni to proceed.

As long as I don't do too many natural redis in the tree I can clear my line without clearing the redis. Heck, even if I get down and forgot to plan all I have to do is reclimb to clear the redis or i could use a throwline and grapple to hook out one leg of the climbing line between redis.

In addition to the unicender the eddy with the RADS system also got brought out and I was wondering where I could get one of those. I see where you are with the redis and the advancing your line and I love it.

Google "eddy edelrid" to find a dealer. The guys from Safety Technology said that the same tool is branded for Camp too.

Eddy in a RADS is a second place to using the Uni in the tree.

did you look at the lineboss at all? in know its not a srt tool but looked nice the last time i saw it about a year ago, either way your looking to spend some big bucks, the uni is the nicest i think because it works on srt and can be sent in for rebuilds for 80 bucks, if you plan on doing a lot of srt on it that is a good thing because they only give the device about 1000 srt hours before it needs a rebuild

Thanks for the help. I found it for $126 at a place now I just have to get a couple side jobs done to justify the purchase. I saw the line boss last year but it was being marketed a lot like the lockjack and I wasn't impressed.
