Unicender knock off?

Yay, good for Morgan, and for us. I see they've been able to shave about $200 off the original price.

Looks like replacing the four grippers IS the rebuild. Uni owners - do you gradually feel less gripping power as those parts wear?

I like the price. So much so that I plan to buy another one. I was just wondering what's up with the rebuild issue and what was up with the uni being built under rock exotica and not Morgan himself.

Figures!

I just bought my Uniscender at Wesspur for full price.

But, like Mark P. said, I'll get another one. That is, for my employee.

I knew that price could come down.

Jamin, don't be too upset.

Ours are rebuildable where these new ones are not.

Why they wouldn't be I have absolutely no idea but I know mine will need a rebuild soon and it has only been a year... There is no way I would pay 300 bucks for something that only lasts a year.

At least our unis can be rebuilt for 80 buckeroo babes.

Sweet. I didn't realize the new ones can't be rebuilt. Weird.

One thing I thought about with saving the life of the Uni is to use smaller diameter rope for a while. If it creeps, move up to a slightly larger diameter rope. Then, buy the time a 1/2" diameter rope is no longer holding, it would be time to have the rebuild.

I'm going to talk with Morgan and find out what I can. I haver Unis for sale...rebuildable ones. So...hold off on any purchases until I find out more.

After talking with many Uni-Flyers the diameter of the rope is one consideration. Another is the sheath architecture and the density of the rope. A smaller diameter softer rope will fly differently than a larger diameter hard rope. Dense, small pic sheaths make for another variable.

Under heavy weekly use by practicing arborists and with relatively grit-free lines (utilizing a friction saver above), the Unicender has been found to last 18 months or more before requiring replacement of the four clamping blocks or retirement all together. These parts naturally erode from rope abrasion.

It doesn't say it cant be rebuilt...

It says replacement of the four clamping blocks meaning rebuild me thinks...

Or altenatively, perhaps with the lower price vs cost of rebuild you would choose to retire it & just buy another one.

Thanks Tom.

Looks like I'll have a chance to try the original version here soon (the ones made by Morgan). If all goes well, I could very well become a Uni convert with this price drop. And not to mention, the awesome color

I'd like to see the Uniscender with carbon steel beveled edge inserts for the friction points. This would last a lot longer. Sure, it would cost more, but it would last many years... I think.

Jamin,

Morgan had inserts with the Uni II. They did wear better but it took a LOT more machine work to make them work. One of my Unis is a II and the inserts are shiny but not very worn.

The current Uni is made from tougher alloy to give longer life.
