Unicender, HH2 (Hitch Hiker) or Rope Wrench?

....but now that I know you have been using the Akimbo, how do you like it? Oh, and how much do you weigh?...

I have been lucky, indeed, to be able to test some great tools. I weigh 147 lbs. The Akimbo is genius! I originally thought that Jaime had spent too much time on making it fancy looking. Not true. Its form is due to its functions and it functions very well.

It's in perfect condition, I have to many toys to ever wear any out Dave. Even though you called me AJ I knew you meant me, lol.

Sorry Frank! It's a painful reminder of all of these screen names! As far as the Uni goes, would you be willing to part with it? If not, I truly understand. But, it's always been one of my favorite dual purpose devices out on the market! It's just as impressive as the SAKA when it came to be. I've just got great times with them both, and waiting for an Akimbo to hit the market is more than likely going to be a dream for me. I have too many devices to justify the next generation of Arborists climbing tools. But, if you love it, stick with it! That's how I feel about the Unicender.

Had to go find it. $225 and it's all yours Dave. I have your address.

I agree, Uni is awesome on and off the rope. I had the same trouble with the HH. Although, personally I'd take a BDB over a RR any day. I think that the BDB is the best multicender available.

Until the production Akimbo and/or Rope Runner 2 is released I'm all in with the Compact Bulldog Bone. Quick on and off the rope, smooth operation, SRT or DdRT functionality, all good. ZK-2 Rope Wrench is next on my favorite list with Rope Runner third. Runner is great, just too many parts/drop potential when you're taking it on/off rope up in a tree.

Definitely, one of the finest SRT devices on/off the mainstream market! I'm so glad that @surveyor, hasn't sold his rights for this device. I'm a big believer and user of the BDBone. Great pic A J. You running Puke on yours? I like KernMaster with mine.

Besides other issues mentioned with the Zig-Zag/wrench combination is the problem that the ZZ is not midline attachable. As a result when you want to advance you're rope, if you're not creating a mechanical redirect you're going to have to run it through a crotch, multiply that many times and I'd start to get worried about the integrity off the ZZ links.

I have enough investment in Tachyon ropes that I really wanted an on/off the rope SRT mechanical that works well with that rope. The rope in the photo is the "Saluting Branches" version of Tachyon, color scheme is very not good for work ;-) Great for rec climbs.

I first tried the BDB (CutHighnLetFly/Andre's BDB) at a rec climb over the winter, for me it edged out the Akimbo prototype in overall functionality and feel. That's probably not fair because I could probably adjust the Akimbo to get exactly the ride I want. However the Akimbo is not here yet ;-)

Since I have a zz, I'm thinking I'll dedicate mine to crane work. On it's own dedicated rope. It'll live it's life on that rope under the ball. Never have to remove it, except for cleaning.

Edit: was referencing AJ's post on the zz.

I find the size and design really nice for SRT stem work. It really tucks up nice between the harness and the stem leaving almost no flopping to worry about.

Yes, looking at the BDB it's not obvious to see but when it's loaded it has very compact extension on the rope.

Edit: My arms noticed this right away, I like to pull rope above the device when I'm ascending, with the BDB there's plenty of room, my arms don't have to extend too far (out of the strongest position) and I can gulp more rope per pull. I don't do an adjustable bridge so finding the right balance of fixed bridge length and device extention is important.

The BDB sits really close and compact, I love it. As far as, Saluting Branches colors, they suck! Wouldn't be visible against a lot of trees! No love loss for it! The brighter, the better!

I love mine also. Just don't like the non-midline attachable aspect of it. I drag my rope through the tree for re-positioning and through the zz. I find it easier to manage with crane work for normally your not tending 100' of rope through the zz.
