You insulted the dudes cutting right off the bat, what kind of response were you hoping for? Talk about ego jeeesh.
Insulted? Please. Should I have blown some smoke up the young man’s ass after he posted a vid of himself trying to force a dead top into another tree resulting in a hung up top? He gets enough of that from the YouTube peanut gallery, so instead I pointed out what he had done wrong and the dangers of having a hung up top sit in his lap. I also gave him some advice on better ways to handle that situation, and things to look out for. I ended this conversation with the following- "
You are a talented young climber so keep on learning, honing your craft, and staying safe". That's about as sugar coated as this grumpy old man is gonna get..
Obviously he wasn't listening because a few vids later he chose the wrong cut and tried to stuff a top into a space it wouldn't fit. We all know the result of that error in judgement. Knocked off his spur as he ate a top in the chest.
Likewise with him pile driving his life support into the asphalt. Asked him if he knew how to set up a retrieval leg or use a canopy anchor.
A smallish tree sitting back on him which resulted in his saw and a set of wedges stuck in the tree? Told him the back-cut first method can work well on mild backleaners of this size.
Using a crow bar up in the tree because he pinched his saw so bad he couldn't get it out. Suggested he might want to learn the teeter totter with some wedges trick for situations like this.
Believe me when I say that I am genuinely concerned about this young mans safety, well being, and longevity because the rate at which he is making mistakes while also making things unnecessarily hard on himself is not sustainable. And believe me when I say that if I didn’t see talent in him I wouldn’t have bothered.
